Hey Darwin good luck with the SRV build. What a legend to do a tribute axe
Attachment 11720 I did that with My WASHBURN N2. I may do a Jackson Pollock style paint job instead with more Pin Up Girls as my Colour mind you instead of boring Sunburst.Attachment 11721 along those lines
hahah, my plans change right up to the moment I start I start applying the paint
I let the Wood tell me what it wants , Personally I do not care about the Appearance ,MY 1986 Charvel Jackson I covered with Glow in the Dark Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Stickers and the guitar was Firecrackle , It was a nightmare to look at but played like a dream . Also had a Hamer Flying V with a Floyd that had pink pockadots I paid under $ 300 for a Neck thru that kicked
Attachment 11765Attachment 11764 that is the back and the front
Pretty cool paint application. looks a bit Hendrixy tie dye style....
Yes it is taking on a Life of its own Attachment 11920
OK Finished itAttachment 12057 So it has Dragonfire Texas Specials, onto a Telecaster
looks cool Darwin, have you handpainted the top ? where does the serial number on the headstock come from ? Is that the dates Hendrix and SRV died ?
I just googled the dates and they are the dates of their deaths
Yeah its my Tribute Strat to JIMI and STEVIE yes JH Sept 18 1970 and SRV Aug 27 1990. Yes I hand painted the Front and Back with an Oil paint, then clear coated the front and the back and haedstock left the sides neck without clear coat so it will scuff up and get that natural relic look
nice tribute Darwin, so have you strung it up and played it, how does it play and sound ?
I have intonated it and need to get some new strings then I will post a sound sample
I am going to build a Telecaster as a Tribute to the most underated guitarist and even Jimi said he couldn't compete with > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_dq5xuDP2A
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3LRX3qgwCw The Late great Terry Alan Kath
sounds good Darwin, first I've heard of Terry Kath - know of the band Chicago though
That looks amazing, especially the hand painted front!
free form is great however when I heard this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z44ei3Q8e6k this man deserves so much more Guitar recognition.
Kath was a monster, for sure.
I read somewhere that he couldn't read or write music notation, but when he wrote songs he used to sing all the parts to each guy in the band. He had all the whole arrangement, including the brass in his head.
So is this the Tele you want to copy?

Yeah that is the one . I want to do the stickers with a Pin up of my wife mind you and change the other ones as well
I am having a problem with the Wiring of my Strat , I do not understand the 5 way switch so I will probably replace it with a Standard 5 way switch as I cannot get the Bridge pick up wired . I changed the Pick ups with Texas Specials and I have Neck and Middle working but the tones are wonky and the bridge is not working
Hi Darwin, please post a couple of close up pics of the wiring we may be able to help. Resident wiring guru Weirdbits should be able to help. Is the bridge pup correctly earthed and makes a good join to the switch ? Might also help to please post the wiring diagram you are using. Cheers

............1...2...3.....0.....4...5...6
1. Neck pickup
2. Middle pickup
3. Bridge pickup
0. Out to volume (common)
4. Neck tone
5. Middle tone
6. no connection
(or link 4 & 5 as neck/middle tone and connect to 6 for a bridge tone etc.)
Ground the switch via tab on the switch body, if not grounded by pickguard shielding.
Actually foun d out what the problem was bridge pick up wasn't connecting to the switch . So after re soldering the switch and wire I also did a Shim to the neck as the saddles were looking like stilts so I was able to lower saddles and it seems to be sounding fine
good stuff Darwin thought that was the first thing to check. Glad its worked out and sounding good
good work Weirdy chimes in again to the rescue !
