Only got the one "in the build" one is on order and other is a bunch of parts in a box so far :P
Looking good Waz
I am just about to start the wiring on the 12 string, i was going to do some finishing but the relative humidity is 71%
Just about to give DB's pickups another coat and i think the neck is done so i might get some tuners on it, then again all this can change in 5 mins :D
Going to start a dual humbucker tele
got this on order :P but it won't look anything like a factory one. More....freshly dug up.

The other box of bits is for a scratch build inspired by a Bo Diddly box, I just need a neck for that and I don't feel confident of making one.
That's different and truly unique. Would be a B#@ch to play sitting down unless that is a Steinberger type fold out bit I can see hanging off the bottom edge?
Had a Flying V for a very short while some 30 odd years ago and was it a PIA to play sitting down. The only way to do it was to wedge the V across your right thigh thus pushing the neck plenty to the left. Standing up playing it was only marginally better as it was hard to find the right balance with rear strap button placement. Great look, average sound that was a bit too shrill when compared to a LP, and moved it on after about 6 months of ownership. Would only buy another one as decoration.
waiting for the clear on this to cure:

Ohhh, that's really Purdy and love that shade of Magenta. Presume White Knight Acrylic for the top coats?
Is this for you or someone else as it is not a lefty?
thanks Waz, well spotted, it's for my sister.
body is flame maple and same colour as headstock, just doesnt show so well in this most recent pic
it's a 2k rattle can acrylic and takes forever to fully cure.

Waz, a mate of mine has a very nice vintage Flying V, I recently asked where it was, he said "At a friends studio, I don't like standing to play" . His comment was "Its a one trick pony, it does that one trick well, the rest of the time its a pain in the arse"
The GD-1 I admit I bought purely because it appealed to my dark side and to my props maker side. It will get played very little I imagine, besides, its a shredder and I'm defiantly not. Yea, I sometimes look at guitars as just another form of art other than just an instrument. My BoDiddly inspired box will be a bit the same although it will probably make a nice slide axe.
Stan, that colour is frikken awesome!
cheers Deddy, wait until you see the all black hardware on it... gotoh 18:1, Babicz bridge and stop piece , SD JB and Jazz combo pickups...
dam you guys, I just ordered a bolt on LP neck for my Bo-box
Dedman thats were it starts and then you spiral into the next kit and the next kit always looking for the next build, jonesing for a nice flame or spalt or awesome grain in ash.
I have stripped down my Flying V copy. I took the top down around 1/8" and Im slapping a couple pieces of flamed maple on. Its a very solid copy... all mahogany, set mahogany neck... I muffed up the black neck binding, so I pulled it all, and redid it with ivory. I did it Gibby style, with the nubs. The flametop will be bound in ivory as well. I also took the same off of the headstock, also to be flamed. Im planning on leaving the cherry colored finish on the sides and back. Ill sand down the neck and refinish it with the top. Not sure on color... maybe black first, sand down the field, then red? Ill decide at some point... heres a couple pics...http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...89691140ff.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...18fdb07171.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...207852337d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a5b8eb7559.jpg
I also have an SG scratch build in the works.. trying to locate a 1/2" thick quilted maple or Sapele top for that one..

Dave a mate of mine years ago put some sympathetic strings on his flying V, in the V route, and wrangled some piezo setup, have to admit it worked, but this guy could play anything.
I like my V.. lol. I have a set of EMG actives that go in it.. thing is sweet. Maybe the solid mahogany helps... it was my #1 go-to back in the late '90s early '00s.. that and my explorer...

And Jimi.
Actually I reckon they'd be easier to play sitting down that standing up.
Yup.. Hetfield, Zakk, KK to name a few. Both of mine are 81/85 sets, which I think are now sold as ZW.... one of mine is the solderless set... soooo nice!

[QUOTE=Fretworn;101913 Actually I reckon they'd be easier to play sitting down that standing up.[/QUOTE]
Agree however the neck is positioned about as far left (or right for Jimi) as you would play a bass meaning the distance to the nut and tuners relates more to 34" scale rather than 24.75"....it can be done, just feels weird and a bit different as a guitarist but after playing bass for so many years I actually feel cramped for room on a lot of guitars these days.
arrived today Jr-1 with ebony fret board. Plans are for art deco minimalism and an interesting paint effect

nice one Dedman, is this a PBG kit ? Headstock grain looks cool. Check the bush spacings suit the wrap around bridge, I'm building this model and the bush holes are drilled for a TOM bridge so the bush hole spacing is too narrow. Looking at your photo your kit looks ok
Yea, Wokka, it is a PBG kit, I'm using an aftermarket gold bridge which isn't here yet, so ......
Will have gold Wilkison Imperial style tuners and hopefully I can make one of these Mini Humbuckers fitAttachment 10210
I like the plans for this axe already Dedman. Any clues on the body colour yet ?
Black -ish . I'm calling the axe Tsunami. so it will hopefully have a turbulent deep ocean look to it if my paint effects work out.
sounds great Dedman, your artistic skills are coming in very handy !
I will be interested in this build and the mods.
I might wait for a couple of weeks then order some new hardware.
I have been major servicing my car today, so i cant be bothered with guitars as the moment.
haha Tony go pour a beer instead. You reached 4 figures with your post numbers, over halfway to Overlord of Music status
