Mock build looks okay to a complete noob like me

The string pull between the nut and peg looks a bit off to me. Should I be worried?
Attachment 5802
As the scribble on the headstock suggests I like pointy gutiars.

No, your string trees will sort this out...
pointy is cool, enjoy
Nice one JT.
Just be careful not to take someones eye out with thhe pointy bitz :)
Also, are you going to pointify the body horns?
That would really turn it into a nicely balanced looking Metal Monster :)
Headstock is shaped. I'm not 100% happy with it. I should do the body horns next weekend, though I'm not sure there is enough meat to get a nice curve on the bottom horn. Might leave it as is and consider it as having a personality conflict.
Attachment 5807
Hahahahaha!
As long as the curve wont compromise the neck pocket you can go nutz on it..
You can always mod the scratch plate to suit..
Can't have your Guitar suffering from a personality complex :p
Had a go at adding some contours to the headstock. Still needs a bit of work to clean it up. Must learn more patience and focus.

Looking interesting!
Reminds me (slightly) of the headstock on John Entwistle's Buzzard basses. Are you still going to reshape the body as well? I think the body will need to go pointy so the headstock sits in. Even just Jem pointy

I've got some ideas for the body. I'll see what happens when I "gently" attack it with the bastard file. Might end up with one for the ugly guitar thread.
Started on reshaping the horns. not quite there yet.
Attachment 6113
Keep at it JT, slow and steady is a good attitude to have :)
Pick guard is disassembled ready to be reshaped once I finish abusing the body. Is it worth removing the existing shielding and redoing with copper tape over the entire back face?
Attachment 6123
Front of the top horn is roughed out. A couple of little touch ups to be done and then start on the back of the horn.

I think I'm quite happy with the result. The kids looked a bit surprised when they saw it. I think they might have been expecting a bit of a disaster. They like the shape of the body more now. I suppose that's what you get when you have them listen to a fair bit of metal growing up.

Time to start sanding the body to a point where I can give it a healthy dose of Black Stump DT. I have a feeling that's going to take a while. Times like these I think it could be handy to own a bobbin sander.
I'm tossing up between using a Dremel, a copping saw or scraping with a sharp blade to do the pickguard. Any gotchas to watch out for when working the plastic?
Now I've had some time looking at it I think it looks a bit like a Strat that wanted to be an SG.
Nice carving job, nice refinement to the standard st-1. I'd be very happy with how that's turned out.

Thanks Andrew
well done JT, I just caught up with the diary. Love the horns and headstock shape really suit each other.
Can't wait to see some DT blackstump applied.
i think it turned out really well, nice result. this will look awesome black
Just had a thought that some dark red highlights could work on or around the edges of the scoops. Not sure how that will work with using DT to stain the rest of it. Time to experiment on some pine.
Hey JT yes that could work. I've seen scoops of PRS builds done in another colour could work too. My personal preference would be red scoops would look super cool
now that would look good sarge, maybe some red on the headstock to balance it too?
Really digging this build so far. I love it when someone creates something new and exciting.
So this is the paint concept for the body.
Attachment 6195
Sweet JT that's exactly what I had in mind. Gets my vote
Looks great Sarge, I'd go for that!
Yep, another vote from me!

pick guard has been roughly shaped. Tidy up and beveling required.
Attachment 6243
shape looks good Sarge. Where you can try and match the shape of the scoop and body bevels/curves and keep the same offset to the pickguard.
Should look very cool once cleaned up
nice work, a little bit of rasp time has made it look pretty mean. personally i reckon you should continue the bevel all the way around the edge on the front of the body, just to make the edge of the body look a bit sharper
Got back to this again lately. Finished off carving the body up, sanding and started applying the black stump. Its not the best job and the last intensifier coat may need to be rubbed back a bit, but I'm generally pretty happy with the result so far.
Attachment 16783
Those curves look great. Are you shaping the pickguard to match, or something different?
I'll shape the pickguard. So far its looking like this. I think it needs a bit more work and I'm still thinking about the logo. This ones a bit big. Attachment 16807
Maybe a bit too large, but not by that much. It's either got to be small and discrete, or big enough to make a statement and be seen from a distance. I'd keep the dragon's head about the same size and make the wiggles in the J a bit more defined so that people can see it's part of the design and not a wobbly bit of painting.
Looking good. That reshaping really gives this model a whole new feel
Man, epic build dude. I think the modified body looks sweet and the pickguard shape is starting to look great too.
Cool reshaping and I like where this build is headed. Love the idea of doing a pointy super strat that *isn't* a solid colour.
Good stuff sarge, love me some reshaping! I like the way the body and headstock work together.
Thinking I might attempt something like this for the pickguard.
