Trouble uploading pics..
I will get back to you shortly.......
so photos of this axe DB ?
is it a set neck or bolt on ? obviously bolt on will be much easier to change necks.
I've had trouble uploading pics since the weekend DB, keep getting internal errors, think others have to
Tenor as in 4 string? Interested.
sounds cool, will be interested in seeing how you do the neck joint.
Also if they are going to be changed, will the bridge need to be moveable as well, or compensation built into the neck?
Interested to see this new wacky and wonderful DB creation play out!
does not compute
Tenor guitar is, in a way, guitar for banjo players. The scale is shorter, it has four strings. They were quite popular in the 20s and 30s as banjo had been the primary stringed instrument. Even into the 40's jazz guitarists like Tiny Moore were using Tenor guitar. Warren Ellis from The Dirty Three and the Bad Seeds plays a Eastwood tenor guitar when he isn't playing violin.
Cool! Thanks fretty
A few photos.
The job just got bigger.. Now I am restoring the body as well.
wow that's different DB, cool project though, so this was built in the 60's ? Has it got enough fret dot markers ?
Yep, 60- 64 I reckon..
The neck dots are a tad overboard :)
Quiz time..
What make and model is this Guitar?
Is it a Kustom K200
I think we have a winner, '67-68 maybe.
looks cool, great project, very Ricci like to look at
Does it have a metal claw for a nut? It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures, but that's what it looks like.
The winner is Kimball :)
Yes, it has a metal nut and dates between 65- 68. I will try and match the serial number later
so about DB's vintage then DB hahahhaa
unfortunately mine too Wokka...
Pulled the K2 down today to begin sanding..
Soldering looks like a flock of sea gulls kaked up on it...
The finish is appalling and the body has had the begeezuz sanded out of it, about as flat and straight as a dogs hind leg.
This work was allegedly done by a Luthier.
And now its up to me to yet again fix someone else's cockups... Oh well, at least I am being well payed for this job..
go at it DB...
Filthy wiring. Surprised it works!
crikey think my first effort on my first build the soldering was tidier than that. Looks like its had a hard life DB. The previous work must have been done by Dodgy brothers luthier service.
As you say you got plenty of work ahead but there's always a work around!
Oh my word and I thought my soldering was bad...
My favourite one is the bodgy join on the earth lead coming off the jack... Pure genius.
Looks like there's a second wire from output going to pickguard. Did you plug it into an amp and test the wiring DB? Would be a miracle if it works.
How much of the electrics are you replacing?
Jeez I thought I had seen the worst wiring in the world when I looked at my first wiring attempt...
I'd be replacing the whole thing if it were me wokks. Wiring is easy and quick enough and when done right reduces all sorts of electrical gremlins.
She does make a noise, only one of the pots is a bit dodgey..
Thing is, the brief is to retain as much of the original gear as possible.
The idea is to restore, not rebuild.... Its a very fine line and one that is easily crossed...
The fun bit will be creating a new headstock logo for the beast that looks like it has some age to it :)
A few passes through the drum sander and BOOM! She is nice and flat :)
Oh yes, nice and flat! Much better to the eye!
What wood is it DB? I like the grain in it!
My guess is its Alder, feels like it and the dust tastes like it :)
Mmmmmmm... Sounds tasty!
nice one DB that drum sander is magic. It not only flattens the body it also takes off all that old stain. Kills two birds with one drum sander !
Will you be replicating thestain colour ?
Be hard to restore any of the old pots/switches, might be worth getting some new vintage pots and switch
You could just say that they cleaned up real nice DB ;)
mmm... drum sander goodness
Yhep... Love my drum sander, saves me lots of time..
With the pots, I hope I can track down the originals.... Could be next weeks challenge.
that will be a challenge finding original pots, switch and output jack. Is the owner likely to open up the control cavity after the work is done ?
