Quilt IB7
Opened the Quilt IB7 box tonight and really pleased with the quilt on the body. The neck fit is tight as and solid. There is some cool grain on the headstock and back of the neck.
Already have a Lace Alumitone neck and Deathbar bridge pickup to be fitted and will probably do a new nut. Still looking at hardtail bridge options ( would like a tight end R7 bridge but you have to buy a prestige ibanez to get one)
Have no ideas on colour yet or topcoat ( bit over TO at the moment.)

Hey Tony, if you're after am Ibanez Tight-End R7 you can order it as an OEM part from an Ibanez dealer.
I don't know if the Aussie dealers will do it but Ibanez Rules (in the US) certainly do and they'll ship Int'l ... seems they're listing the R7 at $US120 (+postage)

Sweet. Thanks for that Scott, will suss it out.
-
Thats bloody expensive for a hard tail. What's the deal?
-
Guitars & Cars ... its just the same ... you'll always pay more for a OEM (original) parts than you do for aftermarket (ever had to buy a genuine Fender or Gibson part!!!! ) ... and as far as I know there's no aftermarket producer of the R7 bridge (at least not yet anyway - you've gotta give the Chinese factories time to tool-up! :D )
-
I considered the Ibanez rules parts for my custom IB-7 but its pretty expensive. Theres a webstore called guitarpartsresource that sells a decent seven string hardtail bridge (fender style, nothing fancy) for about 20 bucks. I went with that option so if you want cheaper parts that you can be sure of quality check them out.
-
nice looking axe Tony, could be another GOTM contender I reckon !
I think any colour would look fantastic on that quilt top
-
In my world, all the IB-7s would come just like that.

Had a chance to do some more work again ( back from hols) and gave a quick wipe over with alcohol to suss the quilt and then coloured with a vintage amber colourtone with a drop or two of orange. Happy with the colour but now trying to figure out what colour the rest of the body should be and should it burst to the final colour. Going to put a flamed maple veneer on the headstock with flame running along the head to sort of match the front of the body.
-
wow, that is coming up really nicely
-
Colour and figure is looking amazing Tony!
cheers,
Gav.
-
Man, that quilting has "luminescence" to the max.
Interested to see what choices you make for the rest of the build - should be a pearler.

After a week clamped, roughed back the veneer on the head-stock and hand drilled out the holes.
Unfortunately the veneer I have didn't have the width for the flame to run along the head-stock so went with how it currently is.
Still struggling with what color to do the back, black being an obvious option, but need to find some time to experiment with color.
-
black always looks good, but a nice dark teak colour would look good too!

Got a chance to stain headstock. Flame came up pretty well.
-
Nice work Tony, looks terrific! Can't wait to see this come together

-
Wow Tony that headstock really bounces. Did it come with the veneer or did you put that on?

Got a chance to colour the back and made up a combi of three colourtone dies and then a buff back with Steel wool. Not everyones cup of tea but ok for me. Put the first coat of tru oil on and starting to see how the quilt will come out. Photos not the best (getting dark)
Have ordered a Hipshot 7 bridge as the Ibanez bridge was out of stock.

holy crap Tony thats a mega stunner, wow that just pops that veneer. There should be more quilted maple kits available !
-
Looks sooooo good man.
I absolutely cannot WAIT for my IB7 to arrive in March. The wait has been killing me.
-
That's a djlicious looking axe man, that quilt and the finish are amazing.
-
X2 on the wait killing me. If my cap looks as good as this I'll be stoked.
-
Stunningly beautiful, has come up a treat with the Tru Oil and the quilted top is to die for! How many coats of Tru Oil are you stopping at? Reason I ask is on my latest build I've hit 4x coats and looks like ready for polishing. On previous builds have used up to 10+ coats. I suppose it all depends on how the wood takes the oil.
-
That top pops beautifully!
-
@andrewo is four coats so far. Probably look at another six or so then buff and polish fairly hard
