I thought I'd start us off this month after the stellar October GOTM!
This my first build - an STA-1M with a reverse stock.

Thanks for your consideration.

well done Nick, great looking and sounding build, no mucking around entering. I can see November being a big month !
So is it an advantage to use 5 trem springs ? I've never tried it. Suppose you don't need the same tension as 3 springs
-
nice, going to be another month of superb entries.
-
Dear God, if that's the first entry so far, November is going to be stupid big. Love that axe man, and your playing.
-
nice work Nick, you have hit the ground running, nice job and playing
-
Nick, that is one awesome surf strat. Amazing work on the finish, and I love the reverse headstock! Everything about this axe is perfect.
Cheers,
Gav.
-
Nick, great entry nice demo. Your STA-1 really does have that surfy vibe going on with the grain and stain. Headstock gives it a unique look and interesting dynamics with the strings
-
Okay, going to enter this month in the hope that there's not 12 bloody awesome entries like last month haha. Although it looks like I'm probably already at a loss as Nick's entry is fantastic!
Anyways, here's my first ever build and first entry for guitar of the month.
My JM-1 'Jag Dispute', inspired by one of my favourite bands: La Dispute.

Two brilliant headache causing entries!
Judges, I hear the Maldives is good this time of year. Last one there pays for the drinks...
-
well done Mike I've been wondering when you were going to enter the JM. Looks supercool in white and love the logo and engraving on the neck plate. A worthy contender I'm sure
-
looking great Nick.
loving the color and grain.
and no worries on the wearing off of the fretboardfinish... playing = wearing off
Mike goin' for the custom detailing...yea, i'm a fool for those things...good luck to both of you.
-
Great JM Mike - love it! Already two guitars this month that I would kill for. Great work guys!
cheers,
Gav.
-
Some nice personal touches on that JM Mike and it looks like you've nailed that white finish!
-
Always loved the JM. Nice work man.
Cheers for the comments too guys. She's been getting a good workout the past month learning some technical stuff - extremely happy!
-
great custom details and great finish Mike, super cool
-
Thanks everyone :) Really stoked with how it turned out, and it's been playing amazingly at band practices and shows!
-
Sheesh those first two would scare anyone from entering! Well done fellas.
-
-
-
Love the finish. Beautiful in its classic look and the reverse headstock.
-
nice one Shoey, no worries about the help along the way, thats what the forum is for to help builders build great axes ! I'm sure you have learnt a heap and most important part is don't rush it. Nice clean looking axe, you must be proud of it for a first build. Hows it sound and play, all stock hardware ?
-
It's cool to see two of the exact same kit being built and how each builder's choices make them so different. Will be cool to see ours side by side mate.
-
Sounds surprisingly better than thought it would being bog stock. Bit of fret buzz on the first few frets and the truss isn't playing ball (maybe a taller nut me thinks). Will eventually have a black pick guard and tone riders but alas the bank account is slim on the count of having another bub.
-
Hey man, not really sure what you mean by "the truss isn't playing ball" but if your frets aren't level (I can't remember you mentioning doing a fret job in your build diary) unfortunately no amount of truss rod adjustment is going to fix the issue.
This is one of the unseen expenses that come with guitar building that no one tells you about when starting out but if you want your guitar to play and feel like it's supposed to a fret level is crucial. I can't see how getting a taller nut from the standard plastic one will be of any benefit unless you're into high action (yuck)
If the budget allows further down the track I'd recommend getting hold of a leveling block, re-crowning file and a fret rocker, if you're serious about having a guitar that is setup correctly and plan on more builds in the future it's definitely a worthwhile (not to mention necessary) investment.
Strat looks insane BTW, it looks like you've been building guitars for years mate.
-
-
Barge that is so slick. Love the scalloped headstock , love the panel inlayed in the back and the headstock "pickguard".
This just oozes class
-
was waiting for you to enter Barge, another stunner mate, well done, its all class
-
the quality of the builds this month are insanely brilliant!
-
What this month lacks in numbers it makes up for in serious quality. Great work fellas. Almost glad mine's not gonna be ready. Almost. :)
-
so think this is the 5th entry this month. This is my entry, LP-1M mahogany body and neck.
Popped the flames on the body with a black stain, then finished in Dingotone Coolangatta gold. Back, sides and neck finished in FW jarrah stain. About 8 coats of tru oil over the entire guitar.
Headstock veneer is blackheart sassafras. I purposely ran the grain horizontal to match the flame on the cap. Truss rod cover is cut out of camphor. Bone nut cut and slotted.
Pickups are tonerider Generators sound great. Got push pull pots to coil split both neck and bridge pups. Hoping I get a bonus half a point for getting Wayne's dog Odie in one of the photos !

I was wondering which one of your latest masterpieces you were gonna enter. Well there you go Wokka and his elves do it again, another 4D stunner. Love it man:-)
-
cheers Barge, I got at least 2 others ready to enter but waiting to see how many more entries are coming in. The 4D elves have been busy ! haha
-
wokka, that is one stunning LP, great work.
I think December GOTM will be massive in numbers, thanks to the last sale
-
cheers Stan, you're not wrong, I predict at least a dozen entries for December, there's a lot of build diaries getting close to finishing
-
nervous anyone?...the judges perhaps?
very slick looking guitars
-
Dave just think how the regular judges feel end of the month they have to do this all the time !
Looks like there's a blue Ricky bass being entered soon too to make it even tougher to judge!
-
Hey guys, here is my ib7
candy red over marble with a black burst top, black back and sides, 2k clear. Neck is satin clear with a black head stock face.
Electronics are a stock 3 way, switch craft Jack, cloth wire, push pull volume to tap both pickups which are dimarzio custom blaze 7's in both the bridge and neck. Logo work by andyport and truss rod cover by some champion on eBay.
Currently running the stock trem and nut but thinking I'll change the trem to one I can use a d-tuner with. I'll try to get a video demo up today also. Cheers!
