Hi peoples,
so...my build.
Searched the internet an stumbeled onto Pitbull Guitars.
Bought me a ES-2V kit...i just love them hollowbody guitars.
...
Anyway...
With the unpacking i kind of panicked at first
Ik new the kits needed work done to em, but some flaws arent fixable so i thought...

But after a while i knew what to do...
"Work with what you got"
That way has helped me a few times before.
So sanding and cleaning up the body showed the real deal...
Black mark didnt go away but sanding did fill up some binding gaps.
The torn veneer bits are there to stay...
Work with what you got...i'll make it a used looking guitar
I wanted the warm color of a classical instrument like a violin cello or contrabas
An old stained look?...i cant make it look perfect so
First coat of red dye (Chestnut spirit stain)folowed by sanding and scraping off glue residue that pop up after you dye

oo wow the yellow over the red is looking amazing already. shame some of the cap is a bit rough around the edges, the caps are pretty thin on the semi hollow models though, if you go with a darker colour around the outside it should cover up the blemishes nicely
-
Nice work. It's looking really good.
-
Ow that's right...
The neck and frets i checked first even before sanding
PERFECT STRAIGHT FRETS LINE...
Wich is nice...
I scraped the fretboard free of factory sanding scratches
Taped them off and cleaned the frets
After a packed in the fretboard i started staining

This is coming along nicely and like the red and yellow stain. 1+ for darker colour to hide blemishes.
'Work with what you've got' is a good mantra to work by. I used the same when I 'renovated' what my daughter affectionately calls the 'Disaster-Caster' which was basically a really old knocked around MIM Telecaster. Stripped off the damaged poly, discovered body was made up of at least 7+ bits of Alder with a naff veneer worn around edges. Ended up with a sunburst and the dark edges/sides camouflaged all the joins and poor/damaged veneer edging..
-
great work Dave, you did a nice job on the top
-
Cant seem to post no more
-
Are my pictures too big?
I cant post no more...
-
Love the dye job Dave. She's coming along nicely, despite a few flaws with the veneer. You are doing a great job!
Cheers.
Gav.

Dave, if your pictures are too big they won't post. Try hosting them on imgur or photobucket, or reducing the resolution to 1000 x 1000.
-
looking good Dave, that yellow on red really pops the grain nicely. What are your favourite Belgian beers ? You have so many awesome beers there
-
Well, i personaly like the darker beers...bit sweeter...
Lol
And for my pictures...they will have to wait untill i fixend my pc...
With my phone is a pain to post and read
-
sounds good Dave, so you like the quadruple beers ? My favourites are Rochefort 10, Westvletern 12 are nice but over priced (cost about $50 for a 330ml bottle in Australia). Also the pannepots are nice
-
Love a drop of the Chimay Blue Cap...
-
Lol...i should start a Belgian beer shop over there...
50$/330 sounds crazy...
I threw up about 300$ last weekend if i recall correctly...
-
OW and thanks for the feedback...
I realy wanna show my work but can post no more pics via phone
Guitar plays pretty ok i think...
Just a minor almost corrected fret buzz and a truss rod buzz...
But it looks nice i think...
Did some personalizing on de covers...
Made it all out of some leftovers of wood i still had layin in my shed...
and some copperwire inlay...simple... but rather nice...

3 layers of Danish oil on the pictures
In the end i did about 5 layers if Danish and finished off with 3 layers of hard wax oil from Chestnut products.
I used the sanding dust on the guitar to stain a bit further with the Danish oil at the edges and round the holes.

Wow Dave, loving the colour with the oil applied. She looks amazing! Can't wait to see the whole thing assembled.
Cheers,

This would have to be one of the best bursts I've seen on here, you should be proud of this one man!
-
Well, bloody hell, that was quick! And it looks freaking amazing! I particularly like the 'x-ray' pickguard detail. Brilliant!
-
wow Dave that has come up a treat. Love the peronalised pickguard and switch/truss rod covers. The burst is amazing. Well done Dave !
-
yeah that burst looks so good. i wanna see some full front on pics of the body!
-
-
Thank you all for such nice compliments...does me realy good...
The fact that it was quick is because i just started posting after i did my build...
And the burst i only sanded back the first layer of dye..after that i just did dye over wet dye and tried to make it look subtile...
-
Tell you what Dave, I'd be thinking about entering this magnificent instrument into the October GOTM if I were you.
-
Seconded. There's a lot of awesomeness in there this month, but your guitar is truly something special.
-
yeah, this is a beautiful piece of work with some great 'upgrades' Really hope to see this in Guitar of the Month.
-
-
looks stunning Dave full frontal pic. Now I see what you were doing now making the F hole shape on the pickguard, very clever !
-
that worked out really well, nice job
-
nice, looks so good. all about the gold hardware and binding to set off the body colour
