Hi all,
this is one of my 2nd birthday sale kits I wanted to show off, I haven't had time to take photos of any other new kits yet. It may be a while before I can start on this, got a few projects to finish first but I'm planning to try Karajini red Dingotone on the cap and mahogany or jarrah stain for sides/back/neck. Can't wait to see first coat !

Dang Wokka! You scored big time with this one.
-
cheers Fretty, there were heaps of words of joy when the cover came off the box and I unveiled the body !
It has one of the tightest necks I've seen which is excellent. I may even have to sand some of the neck heel
-
You must be almost tempted to clear coat the top and leave it at that!
-
yes tempted Fretty. After seeing carmine gypsy on a spalted HB4 (can't remember the builder) I am keen to see how it turns out. Plans may change between now and when I get around to starting. Might rub a damp cloth over it to get an idea of what clear coats will look like
-
That figure on the cap is insane man, what a score!
-
cheers Barge, I was pretty chuffed and pumped when I first saw it. Looking forward to the 3rd birthday sale already haha
-
Yeah great score you've got yourself there Wokka. Very jealous over here - an absolutely amazing cap. I like the sound of the carmine gypsy on this guiatr - from memory it looked like a wine red in the end. Would be damn sweet!
cheers,
Gav.
-
cheers Gav, yer it was carmine on a HB4 bass looked unreal. I'm planning DT karajini red, check out Brendans ESB4 build
-
finally made a start on this axe, I was waiting for Dingotone Karajini red, here's how it looks after the 1st stain coat

So, is that karajini red? Darker than the other examples I've seen. What a great cap you've got yourself there.
-
Hey Pablo,
yeah its karajini red. It looks like red wine colour in the bottles. Very happy with the cap although there are a few glue smears on it that I couldn't remove, was too worried about sanding through the ultra thin cap must be 0.5mm or less !
Think the spalted caps make stains look a bit darker than they are on other timbers
-
-
Colour is looking great Wokka.
Cheers,
Gav.
-
cheers Stan and Gav. Got to love the karajini red, think I like it better than wudtone cherry flamenco
-
Looking sweet Woks. Gotta love that Karijini red
-
cheers Tim, are you using karajini on any of your builds ?
-
Nice grain on the cap...
I was thinking of buying that spalted maple LP-kit...
I know i'm just a noobie on here but as carpenter i must recommend scraping the glue marks.
Instead of sanding...
But if it is that thin, the glue could as well be all the way thru the cap veneer...
I'm looking forward to the progres
-
Hey Dave, cheers for the comments, I'd love to remove the glue marks but seriously the cap is about 0.5mm thick, I'm not going to risk scraping or sanding through it. Once I cover the cap in about 3 or 4 more coats hopefully the glue marks won't be so obvious
-
Wokks that is a beautiful cap and that red just sets it off a treat. Time I tried some Dingo tone I think.
-
cheers Jarrod, I've used 3 or 4 Dingotone stains and been happy with them. Karajini red is hard to go past.
Its had 5 days curing so its ready for another stain coat soon or maybe try the intensifying coat
-
looks flash Wokka, think after the highlight and the clear coat, it will jump out :)
-
cheers AJ, thats only 2 stain coats and DT takes about 5 days to cure so this will be a slow build. Its starting to warm up in WA so curing times will drop
-
got first intensifying coat on lastnight, its just been applied so it looks glossy. Pretty happy with the colour is more intense. Another 5 days curing. No shortage of other projects in the meantime !

Far out man that colour looks miles deep and there is no top coat yet. That dingotone gear looks the goods. That cap looks unreal as well. Remind me not to put a guitar in gotm for the next few years haha.
-
Looking fantastic Wokka. That intensifying coat has deepened the colour to the max! Amazing.
Cheers,
Gav.

-
cheers fellas.
@ Tim you know first hand how good karajini red looks !
-
Absolutely stunning red - it's interesting to see how the colour accentuates the spalted top under different light in each shot. Can't wait to see how this turns out...well done wokkaboy
-
cheers Matt, can't wait for the next intensifying coat later in the week
-
Still can't get over this cap, that red's gonna look unbelievable once the clear goes on!
-
cheers Barge, I hope so. I'm just going to keep slapping on intensifying coats and see what happens. Have to be patient with Dingotone although its almost hit 30 degrees in Perth today
-
yeah was so humid this arvo. that burst tele in the background caught my eye
-
hey Ben, yeah I've been meaning to update the build diary on the burst ash tele, got too many projects on right now - did I just say that ? haha
