Gav.
outstanding looking guitar mate, is the body one piece - hard to tell it looks so good
Outstanding build. Magic....
Beautiful. Heck of a flame on that neck too.
Wow. That looks sensational. The way the front and back have been finished is very classy. And those individual pup surrounds really make this a sweet axe to look at. Very envious!
Couldn't agree more about those surrounds, the whole thing looks plush. Very nice job!Quote:

wow what a superb looking axe Kimball. By the looks of the end grain Stan its a 2 piece tasmanian blackwood blank that DB has done the body shaping and routing (I recognise the bench in the first pic), then Jarrod has shaped the tummy and elbow cuts, put binding on (good job Jarrod to bind with those angles created by the elbow tuck), then stained and clear coated it. Then its over to Kimball has organised the awesome pearl pup surrounds and other hardware, looks like a PBG maple neck.
Very classy looking axe, good to see a deep red stain works well on the tassy blackwood !
Cheers Gavin, I've used Johns pickups before I had a pair made in the style of John Mayer , on a replica Strat I made . The sound was spot on considering I don't have John Mayers fingers. I have a pair of coil tapped humbuckers on another strat the versatility amazing. Precision bass pickups punchy great sound. John is very helpful just tell him what you want ,the sound your looking for he will do them for you. Time scale if he doesn't have in stock special orders 2-4 weeks. . As soon as I've got the neck finished and got it setup, I'll willingly send you sound demos or samples . But if you check out most the favoured guitar product or reviews sites he scores highly from clients .hes well known for his Mayer pickups and now has a great set of Hendrix style pickups. Which I look forward to buying n trying out .
Thanks
Kimball
Very nice looking guitar, Kimball
Hey Wokkaboy. Yep two piece Tasmanian Blackwood . The body needed lot of work regarding shape and had few problems with moisture content. Which was discovered in doing the various coats. The edge had slight mark . So I decided to get some binding on. Which hid the mark beautifully as stated previously Jarrod did a great job of spraying n fitting binding while body was in spray shop thanks again Jarrod.Wokkaboy it seems you know more about the binding and paint job than I do lol , I shall be removing the cameras from my man cave as of today lol.
Thanks And Best Wishes
Kimball
Thanks Fretworn much appreciated
Kimball
Hi Stan, Dengreg,.Pablopepper,,Lawry,Bargeeloobs. Thanks for all your lovely comments it's a two piece Tasmanian Blackwood.
Agains guys Thankyou.I need to spend more time playing instead of building now lol
Thanks And I'll let you know how it plays I'm just doing last coat on the neck as thought yellow tinge Antique look took away from guitar.
The neck was bought from USA Bulldog Guitars Wokkaboy.

Looking sensational!
Bit concerned about the moisture issue though, all the timbers I get are kiln dried to 5-10%.
Then I let them acclimatise in my man cave for a few weeks before cutting, joining and shaping.
Off to borrow a mates moisture checker thingy to check my stock, though I suspect after this very wet spell the moisture could be up around 20%...
Yeah strange about the moisture as body has been kept in house. But guitar is looking great . It's something I pictured in my mind and that's pretty much how it turned out..
Thanks
Kimball
Send pics of moisture meter i don't think I've ever seen one let alone used one lol
Here ya go.. This is one of many different models available.

Cool have you tried ya mates meter on your wood yet . I guess the spikes plunge into the wood approx half inch and take reading just below surface.
Thanks

yer I'm sure Tony Grieg used to poke a moisture sensor into the pitch during his weatherwall reports. haha
Thanks for the info Kim, hope the moisture isn't an issue down the track now that the body is stained and sealed with clear
Yeah me too Wokkaboy but Jarrod did say see how it goes . He's a consummate professional and perfectionist. I had to prise it out of his hands to get it back lol.
I don't think moisture will be an issue down the track as it was a simple rub back and left under the IR heater for a while and that seemed to cure it. The problems only really occur once , then if the next attempt goes well then It should be fine once clear has cured. Moisture can be deep in the wood and clear coat always brings it out. Beautiful piece of timber with end grain to die for. When it was polished up and sat in my man cave it really was nearly a case of who is this Kimball and what is this Strat body he is accusing me of stealing lol..... A very well thought out plan you had for this chunk of carved tree Kimball and I think as we discussed these pick up surrounds are on my agenda to produce. They just look so sweet.
I think the small moisture content might be my fault,,,,! I was watering it daily to see if I could grow another one just like it.
Don't stress about it DB . Clear coat can be the hardest to work with on clean wood and 5% is normal I believe.
OK, thanks Jman :)
BTW, where did you get your IR lamps?
That would be the big shed that happens to be green. I warm the finnishing product to no more than 45 degrees to just simulate a hot day. Metal to about 50 degrees until semi cured then let time do the rest.
Ahhhh, the shed whos name will not be mentioned....
Thanx Jman :)
I need some heating for the man cave, it is rather cold in there ATM..
Ah i see yup they are great for that too. CNC is in port on the 23rd so not long now.
Thanks Jarrod . P.s did you grow another tree let me know in approx 50 years lol
Oooooo 4 days n counting for the Cnc can't wait to see first guitar off the Jarrod assembly line . How's the work going on your cad software . How many pieces of wood have you
Bought to practice on lol
constantly bloody off shore at the moment Kimball , then I'm away for 15 days on the third it's all go at the mo
Lol well you got it all to look forward to buddy .when ya get back .
Then I imagine you'll have your head stuck in into the technicalities of CNC
Best Wishes
