Dummy build of 335 that I now have time to start work on.
Flame looks really nice and neck joint is beatifully tight.
Bone for tone from DB and going to fit some GFS Hot "Liverpool"pickups. once colour is on will decide whether to use gold or black surrounds (leaning to gold at the moment)
Some of the gold is chipped off on the tailpiece and was looking at replacing with a GFS Jazz tailpiece, has anyone used one of these previously as is a lot chunkier and wondering if the weight will be an issue.
I have read a couple of the posts around grain filling with timbermate and still unsure of whether to fill the flame or not, and if it will have an effect using colourtone colours. have some maple coloured timbermate.

Hi Tony.
If you make a lolly pop for this then just take care to use 20mm screws into the body. :)
Oh and if you plan to put colour on this make sure you colour before you glue the neck on. That was the mastake I made on the PIG. the pig is an es335 I built. but I glued the neck on before colouring the bidy and it turned out to be a really tough build. It still has issues. but I have moved on. It was RAW kit I won in an ebay auction. Never ever buy RAW kits....
Cheers PK

hi Tony,
Great kit you have there! The flame figure looks awesome. In terms of pore filling, maple has a very tight pore structure and, as such, does not generally need pore filling. If you are dying the flamed veneer I would not recommend filling it at all as it may interfere with enhancing the figure.
I have used both the GFS Liverpools and Nashvilles on a previous build and they sound awesome! You should definately go gold mount all the way!!
cheers,
Gav.

As for the GFS hardware... Dont. I got a Floyd off them and i can rub the "gold" plating off with my thumb!
You are better off looking at Gotoh hardware, a bit more expensive but it is really high quality.. No point putting el cheapo gear on when you will just end up being disappointed....

great looking guitar, love the pickups - I actually like the black rings, but the all gold look is pretty cool too

Hi Tony,
I've been thinking of building a 335 for a little while now. Might have to splash out now that Adam has these as the Sunday special. I'll be watching this build with interest.
What colour are you going for?
Cheers,
Dennis.

Keen to see this one progress, Tony.
You scored a very tidy kit there, and that maple looks flawless. Excited to see where it goes. :)

So after being side tracked for a couple of months was able to put some time into the 335.
Having my first attempt at flaming so seems so far so good.

That's gorgeous man. Love the pop you got.

Yeah, this is coming up well.

So gave the 335 some colour today and really pleased with the result- Have done front back and neck today.
There are a couple of spots on the neck and back that dont want to take on a lot of stain so will have to see what I can do there once it has dried properly.

Quick update as I had to give one to its future owner.
Three coats in of unmentionable gunstock oil.(Suppose I will now have to use the naughty room free pass that DB gave me.)
Dummy with hardware on.

So started to do the wiring on the ES on Saturday and lay it all out and soldered the main harness then measured three times and then connected the pickup wiring. During a quick check found that I had made the harness 1 inch too short and the rear top pot wouldnt reach its hole. After a major flipout did a cut and shut and started to fit. Found that the easiest way to get the pots in was to use the old electricians friend "zip ties". Gently spread the two halves of pot stem, inserted tie and then gently crimped.
about ten minutes to fit all in.

Will have a go at fitting neck tommorow and hopefully be able to near complete on weekend.

That thing is just perfect mate

That's a stunning finish Tony, nice work.

awesome Tony, you really popped the flames nicely and red with gold bling looks superb. Also well done on getting the wiring done, hardest part of this build
-
That is one of my favourite tops I have seen anywhere, let alone on the forum. So schweet!

Damn.... that Tiger Maple looks nice....
Love the Gold, but then I always have had a penchant towards gold hardware.
I've got pretty much the same set of hardware sitting here waiting for the GR-1SF kit I am waiting on. I can only hope the top looks half as good as yours.
Cheers PK

So got neck on over the last two days and getting close to completion.
The things I hate about coming close to the end of a build are
1. You find you havent sussed something out properly like the height of control knobs as you havent taken into account the thinner body and have to do it again.
2. No matter how hard you try once you are happy with your finish you will smack your guitar into every possible obstruction in your man cave.

Wow Tony!! Just wow! She looks amazing dude. The TO has really deepened the flame and intensified the colour. The gold hardware just sets the whole thing off. Just superb - you must be stoked.
cheers,
Gav.
