Hey guys,
I thought it'd be really cool to use this forum as an outlet for us to share some licks. We're all from different backgrounds/eras - how about a lick of the week? Maybe assign each member a week to share one of their own, or use this thread as a communal lick-library.

Are you suggesting we come up with a Lick, or that we just name our favourite...either is cool.
I'm a noodler by nature, and typically just happen on a lick fairly randomly and groove on it...some input from forum members, or taking it to something else would also be a cool option.

What I was thinking is we just film a short lesson on one of our favourite licks. The usual slow - fast - in context type thing.
Yeah critiquing would be cool too
I'd be in that Nick. As you say, there are heaps of different genres living in this forum and I'd like to try something outside my comfort zone.
Okay cool beans I'll get the ball rolling then with this neat little blusey pentatonic lick I came across whilst trawling the interwebs some time ago and find myself using here and there.
It's in the key of D, standard tuning.

So this was a lick I came up with whilst trying to nut out some fusion stuff... I took a few diatonic chords in C major and made arps out of them. This whole thing is based on the C major 7.

Barge - what do those symbols mean? The ones that look like slurs and the arrow up. Or is there a page with this kind of info? I can't find one with those symbols (probably searching the wrong thing)

The little eyebrow looking things indicate either a "hammer on" or a "pull off" depending on the order of the notes and is sometimes accompanied by an "H" or "P" sitting above it.
The arrow indicates a bend and will normally have something written above it telling you the degree of the bend e.g 1/4 step, 1/2 step, whole step (full)

Here's a simple repeating lick in standard tuning that employs both the "hammer on" and the "pull off" as well as string skipping so it makes a great warm up exercise to improve dexterity in both hands.
I keep my 1st finger glued to the 5th fret barring the G,B,E strings and the little blue arrows beneath the tablature indicate the notes that are picked.

Hey ya'll, just a shout out to the mods. Is there any way of migrating this entire thread over to the "general guitar discussion" section? I feel Nick is on to a worth while topic here but it doesn't really fit into the "non pitbull gear" section. I for one am keen to share my (limited) knowledge of the guitar as I'm sure are many others are too given the opportunity.

I was practising some Yngwie Malmsteen licks from Far Beyond the Sun and thought this one was too good not to share. It's just an F# harmonic minor run (how unusual). Have a go!
