Mixed one part dark tease with three parts Golden Rod to get this blend.

And this grain screams at me.
Lawry, these Ash bodies are really special. Why would one ever return to Bass wood unless you were going to use a solid colour I guess?
Totally agree Gav. I had no idea until recently that the grain on an ash guitar could be so pronounced and stunning. I've got to give one a try. They're blowing me away.
The important thing is to use a dark colour on the grain to really make it POP! Cut the darker colour back and then paint it.....! Just gorgeous.
I think that's your best one yet Gav. Just lovely grain feature. And you've been very busy lately.

Thanks Rob, been busy doing other stuff, but was determined to make a start. Going to be in Sydney from tomorrow until tuesday so that will give some curing time!
Since this looks like it might turn out to be a special tele, and since I don't hear any rumours of hanging walls being constructed at PBG HQ, I decided to get some really special Rio grande pickups for this baby.

grain and colour look stunning. Keep this up and we will need a Gav's build section
Just gorgeous. Your build alone will sell 20 more of these kits :).
Curing and almost ready to receive her gifts aka known as upgraded parts!

Darn you Gav (and Adam), I have already built myself 2 Stats and 2 Teles now I have to do another of each in Ash!!! ;)
How awesome is that grain. Beautiful Gav.

The Ash kits are sensational and the wood is great to work with!
An ash Tele would be nice, but I don't want it stolen... ;)
looks sensational Gav, hope you held onto the body when buffing ! Must be a new addition to the naughty corner a buffer. I've told DB he has to expand the naughty corner to the naughty room !
At this rate we'll need a double garage.....Quote:

The cavities in the ash body were a tad smaller than they needed to be to accommodate the rio grande pickups. Put in all the other upgrades in terms of the plate and the volume and tone knobs plus a special 4-way switch especially designed for tele's but whatever you good folks do don't tell adam. i want to hold onto this one......

So are you going to have a pickguard? Or one of these thingys? -
http://www.guitarfetish.com/thumbnai...axx=0&maxy=300
Great question and timing of the question because that's exactly what I am fighting with at the moment. My thoughts are heading in the 'Thingy' direction, just cant bring myself to cover up the grain...
Keen to hear what others think?
No question Gav go the chrome neck pickup surround thingy, don't even think about a pickguard hiding all that beautiful grain. DB would send you to the naughty room for the entire year of 2014 if you did that !
Agree with Wokka. No huge scratchplate on this baby, it would be a crime..!
cheers,
Gav.
and if you did fit a pickguard Gav the wudtone fairies would come overnight and you would wake up the next morning and the body would be finished in conch girl !
Ordered the chrome "Thingy"
How about this...
Cut a copy of the chrome pickup surround out of clear pickguard plastic, take a photo of the grain/finish beside the pickup rout, tweak the colour as necessary then print it onto a transparency or paper (and then laminate/plasticise it), trim to size and glue to the back of your clear pickup ring. If it works you'll have an almost invisible pickup ring. Or, if you have an Ash offcut with similar grain, try making a thin wooden ring and body mount the pickup.
this looks very slick Gav!
oh and +1 chrome thingy is the go - good decision
I got one of them chrome "thingies", then realized that the tl kit I had was routed for a bucker at the neck... lol
I'm in agreeance with Wokka. No scratchplate and a shiny thing.
Waiting for the "thingy" to arrive.

Oh Man, that's going to be one elegantly clean looking TC.
Betcha hoping that escutcheon/surround/thingy lobs before Xmas ;)
Looks better in the flesh. Can't wait to see let alone hear it :).
As long as Realtone are sharp and Australian Post are on the ball!
got a Realtone order within the last week, took about 5 days - pots, tusq nut, orange drops, for the jazz guitar build....
Still tapping fingers and waiting for Realtone to re-open...hope their stock of special pots has arrived!

The tele Neck "thingy" has arrived!
I ordered a black and a chrome one. Unfortunately the black one didn't line up with the neck pickup so by default I have to use the Chrome! I think it's a good choice?

Pots have also arrived so i can get to finishing this baby now!

Gav, it looks amazing. I'm so itching to do one of these ash tele's now. Absolutely beautiful! Wonderful job.
cheers,
Gav.
looking awesome Gav, love the colour and the hardware looks good, agree the chrome neck pickup mount fits in well. You better hide this one from Adam as it approaches completion !
