:D Ok pitbull forum peoples . I would like to hear the excuses that we come up with
to get another kit, that kit we just have to have..
I am sure there are many, and think of it as a community service to your fellow kit builders,
in helping them justify that next kit..
"I actually do need this one!"
"It's an investment, the finished instrument will be worth many times the cost of the kit."
"The price will be going up soon, if I buy it now it will save money in the long run."
"It's the guitar I've wanted since I was a kid. I never thought I'd get to play one, let alone own one, and they may never be in stock again <sob>"

It's not for me - its for the kids - can you imagine them being able to have a guitar that their Dad made for / with them? (I've got three so there's a little bit of work ahead of me to get 1 bass each and one guitar each)...
I had fun building the last one, I'm going to buy another one.

So I have a Strat in Dairy Blonde, BMW, Golden Rod, Hot Auburn and Carmine Gypsy, and DB sent me some extra Concho Girl.....Think I need another Strat.....

These are really helpful.....especially those who do not want to be cured from GAS!
I have a friend who has very expensive guitars custom made for him in the US and then has to hide them so his wife can't find them. When she does (invariably) find out he says, "this is my mid-life crisis. I could be out chasing girls!"

My wife actually likes to see me building them...and comes up with the excuses for me.
"That will look fantastic hanging on the music room wall"
"You can hand them on to the boys as an heirloom, they would be so proud"

As a footnote though.....and to her defense....
I have only built the one kit, and about to start the second.
Maybe after a few more her attitude may change.

I've been thinking about how to connive getting another kit for a few weeks. Because, after almost finishing one, I think I can do better next time. And because I have mostly enjoyed the experience of making my first. It will definitely be a hard sell. I will probably have to sell one of my other guitars to justify it, or make one for someone else. But it is my goal to make another.
...or have more kids Andy?
I'm with Andy in that my wife encourages it too...I have a bit of a backlog of kits to build, which admittedly, I probably have to complete before I can buy more (they aren't pitbull kits, but the next ones will definitely be and I am definitely a Wudtone convert after the kit I have nearly finished).
She actually bought me a Tele kit for my last birthday, and then took me out and bought me an Epiphone SG Pro.
My wife does have a collection of shoes large enough (+300) that I have had to build furniture to accommodate them, so I guess she thinks me acquiring a few guitar kits (and guitars) a year is acceptable.
Now I just have to get better at playing the guitars :)
"But I have all this Wudtone left over! After the money I spent buying that stuff, I need to get another kit so I can use it up!"
I haven't got one of those yet, and what good is an incomplete set?

Admittedly, she has a greater sense of style than me, so its probably not a bad thing (plaid guitars anyone?).

A plaid guitar? Hell, why not, we've had a paisley one!
And the paisley is awesome. Plaid is possibly not quite as cool....an it was done a number of years ago by Blues Saraceno....

How interesting reading back on some of the older posts....came across this one from Andyport....reckon there's no issue in Andy's home now about building the guitars he puts out...in fact I'm sure there would be a queue of members sending their guitars his way to build if he offered...did he offer? When you compare the cost of buying a factory-made guitar to a guitar made from a kit, it makes building a guitar from a kit pretty attractive, okay, Fender price a Standard Stratocaster at something like $1800.00, or maybe more if you're buying a signature model.
A decent Gibson USA Les Paul Standard might set you back something like 3 or 4 grand.
My main justification for building a guitar is that I really enjoy making things.
"It's a hell of a lot cheaper than race cars, what could you get for $200, a tyre?"
"You spend a couple hundred on haircuts every couple of months, surely I can spend a couple hundred on a kit once a year"
