White ES-2V
I've been pretty slack with taking pics for this project as i didnt think i would post a build diary, but its coming up to the stages that i know ill be asking for a lot of advice (wiring etc) so i figured i would start one today.
The aim for the finish is something similar to this, though it will have all silver hardware, p90 humbukers, and a Bigbsy b7 tailpiece. Kind of a mini white falcon but with a classic natural spin. You'll notice the white falcon (copy) in the background, i bought this crazy cheap online as something to play with and refinish, im working on this at the same time (just recently completed the full sand back to timber, about to start the stain)

Here the parts were all sanded finally for first stains, spent a lot of time filling the grain on the front and sanding to get it perfectly level and smooth, ended up staining the back and neck in a light maple (had issues with putting stain on too thick and needed to completely sand it back, thin the stain, then go again which was well worth it)

Since then i have finished staining the back, went on to priming the front with White Rustolum, heres a pic with just the primer, had to do a quick mockup to see how it was looking, decided to buy a vibramate to fill the post holes for the bridge so i can change back to a stop tail if i decided to in the future.

Now have started my first coats of Montana Black (in white haha) First wet sand has been done to remove the orange peel, just letting it sit for another day before i lay the next coat on. You will notice the detail im doing on the back of the neck for a bit of fun.

I promise to be more diligent with photo taking from here onwards as i really love following build diaries myself. Also like i said ill no doubt be needing the collective knowledge here for problems that arise.

nice build plan, that white finish is going to look very classy, dont see may white axes here
-
Thanks Stan, yeah i was going for a classic understated look, the bigbsy will match the black in the p90s too
-
the bigsby will really set this off, looking forward to seeing it

Looks like a nice project. I'm going to follow this one closely. I was planning something similar for a humbucker thinline Tele.

White LP style guitars always make me think of Steve Clark's LP Custom.

Looking great! These really are nice guitars to play, you should be stoked with the results. I really want to see that bigsby on there!
Cheers,
Gav.

Bigbsy is in the mail but when it arrives ill post another mockup pic. Planning on laying another coat of white tonight. Cant wait to get the finish ready for the clear. Planning on a satin instead of gloss, similiar to the inspiration pic.
I asked this in the finishing forum, but will wipe on poly be safe over the back, sides and front all at the same time? and how should i approach this, do the front first then attack the back and sides? that way i can keep it flat during application
-
looking good so far Matt !
what are the back and sides going to be natural ?
Be best to choose a matching clear to the top, is that White Knight ?
-
Yeah i've stained the back and sides maple, they look great in the light so the clear will really help them pop. Yeah after checking out a couple peoples posts i may go pick up some White Knight satin clear instead of the wipe on poly. The top has been finished in Montana Black, its been a really easy process so far
