Creeping Snakes

You may guess from the bad 'tallica pun where this is going. Picked up a Esp-1 kit earlier in the year an decided to try to turn it into a snakebyte clone.

With the cutting and adding on needed this was always going to end up being painted in a solid colour and the grain in the body was fairly plain, so no great loss in that area. Cut bits off, add bits on

Filled in the now open end of the control cavity. Being my first attempt at this much modification I left the switch location as a point of reference, also made it easier to plan the new control cavity.

Shaped the arm cut and upper horn on the body

With the neck in the right position, the pup cavity ended up too far forward

Filled in with pine (same as piece on end of body) and moved the cavity back about 1.5-2mm just to make sure the pup will fit.

As you can see, my routing skills need improving as the router wanted to dig in on the high e side of the rout. It will be covered by the pup so no need to repair it. Another angle showing the relief for the upper frets

To make it look right, added a piece onto the headstock and shaped the pointed edge

For the colour I'm thinking I need to try to do a bit more than just satin/gloss black. Had thought of a silver burst so went to the local paint place and picked up a charcoal/gun metal grey. It's darker than I wanted but it was in the clearance area so I'll make do with it. Now am thinking of trying a carbon fibre effect after watching a few you tube vids. Tests so far are not quite right so will keep trying.
