Hello from Canberra

Hey everyone, I just bought the IB-7 kit, this is my first ever kit and am keen to get started.
I do have a few questions about the process.
I've read through the quick start guide and skimmed the instruction manual. I was wondering whether it's important that the guitar is painted and has a finish applied to it before you assemble the whole thing or whether I'd be able to assemble it all and then apply the finish and paint afterwards (obviously taking the hardware out and taping off sections and so on)

generally it is recommended you do a dry build/mock build first, to make sure everything fits together right.
Typically to you are looking for any problems with:
- scale length
- neck alignment
- neck angle
- missing parts
- Any obvious damage
- Defects that PBG might have missed.

best idea is to start a diary, then post up photos with any questions of anything that you aren’t sure about.

Its always good to ask if you aren’t sure before charging off and really screwing something up (Ask me how I know!?😂).

I did read that doing a dry build is a good idea. But mostly I was just wondering about doing all the soldering and wiring and so on.
Don't really want to start doing any of that if I have to paint it first

Ah yes, the electrickery is best left until after the finish is on. Especially if you are going to shield the control cavities.
I think with the IB styles there is not a lot of wiring you can do out of body, save connecting the links between pots and switch. The pickups and jack and your earth will need to be done as part of assembly.

By the look of that kit it’s single volume, 3way toggle and not much else? Is the switch cavity linked to the cavity for the volume pot or does it link to the pickup cavity?

Yeah single volume and 3 way switch, they both link to the pickup cavity.
