Oh Firetruck is it ever. The worst part is the fact it is around the corner from my office. You'll likely find that spokeshave blade will need a regrind straight off. Those CMT orange tools bits are freaking awesome, go through maple like butter.

Same here but that's part of the fun
Looks good Pabs as satin. I think I've gone over satin with gloss before if thats an option. My JBA4 was satin poly body but now has a bit of a shine due to numerous application of coats....

hey Pabs, why couldnt you just go over the satin with a few gloss coats, just use the same brand and you should be fine, no need to strip it back
Hey Stan, thanks for the tip, but I'm just gonna keep on going with what I've got. A) don't want to spend any more money right now B) really digging how it looks now. Gotta roll with them punches.
Hey Pabs as you say keep applying a few more coats and should look great and give the axe some protection.
As you say no wet sanding and polishing required at the end so that's a win win !
Nice Carbatec stash you got too !
Pabs. I have both water and oil based min wax wipe on poly. I have both satin an gloss finish. You can get a gloss finish out of all four.
I saw a video on YouTube ages ago. E.g. How to get a gloss finish with satin wipe on polyurethane.
In essence....two parts....one don't shake your poly....evidently satin poly has particles in it that settle out when left. These particles disrupt the surface light reflection and make the surface appear matte.
Second...after the finish has cured.....I have hit the finish with auto cut cream....then meguiars ultimate compound.....and then a couple of laps with meguiars scratch x 2.0.....then four coats of a pure carnauba auto wax.
Full gloss finish every time.
Great tips Ozz, thanks!
of course Oz, i didnt think of this - it's the same reason you dont final polish satin paint - it goes gloss, genius in it's simplicity
Two and a half weeks curing, and I think ready to move on.
I was pretty set on using the white pickguard that came with the kit, but I figured I'd do up a black one just in case.

Now I'm a bit torn. Leaning towards the black, but, I don't know. Not very good at making decisions. Opinions?
looks great Pabs the mock build, is the headstock similar colour to the body ?
I am thinking black pickguard suits better
