Well my 30 days of sanding got halved as I've had a cold the last week so...not much work and plenty of sanding time :)
Time to apply Dingotone Custom Colour: Rosewood! This is after the first coat. I've tested a coat on an off cut of maple just to see how it takes as I am very very tempted to do the whole guitar in a Rosewood colour.
After Timbermate Natural but before DT

Lovely colour, i like it, i also used the Timbermate natural on my Baritone, it doesnt seem to detract from the natural grain like some deeper colours do.
Not much to report.... finished sanding the neck to 400. Applied first coat of Dingotone neck coat (no stain on the neck the grain in the maple is fantastic.)

G'day mate, your Tele headstock looks just like mine. Did you download a template or just free handed it? I downloaded some off the net and used one labelled "50's, 60's, 52 AV & 52 AV Special, James Burton Standard, Nashville Deluxe"
Amazed at how many variations there are and the oh so subtle differences between each one.
Geez, that rock maple takes some sanding to take off all the rough bits doesn't it. I also had to cut one for the J Bass too and just finished that off this morning. Glad that part of the build is now done.
Bang on the money waz. same template.
Yeah the Maple is hard! I used a jig saw, and a 180 flap disk on my cordless drill to get the rough shape, then hand sanded, 180, 220, 240, 320 and 400.
When I was on the 320, my older kid (3.5yrs) tried to kill the younger one (1.5yrs) (for the 15th time that day:eek:) so I had to drop the neck and run.......dinged it up......sigh.....back to 220, 240, 320 then finally 400.
Love the DT rosewood colour. Great choice. It's popped the grain really beautifully!
cheers,
Gav.
The color looks great - can't wait to see more.
Ok so the new pickguard required me to fill the predrilled PBG holes. glued toothpicks, cut the sanded with the Brendan patented eraser sander!
