Why stop at 17 strings? Seems rather arbitrary.

I like the fact that it has the cut away, just so you can squeeze out a few extra notes.
I prefer calling those things 'stringed electric instruments' as they certainly aren't guitars or basses.

That's a stunning bit of timber, and a great way to put it together. His pencil guitars have popped up in my feed previously, and they're pretty awesome too.
