Do you still have, and also fit into a pair of leopard print tights to go with a hot pink guitar? Might need a long haired wig too perhaps?

Geez, i didn't think you were that seriously considering it!

Well, the back is still blotchy after adding another later of stain between clear coats, but on the plus side the finish is coming up near perfect and the front is almost blotch free now.
Another layer of stain/clear repeat a few times and we will see where we get to!

Ok so no blotches in the front, but still some stripes. They have faded a bit, and now I'm actually ok with them. The clear is going on super well, with patience I think this could be my best clearcoat yet.
Funny how so often with this stuff things work out differently to the way you started!

Here's a photo of coat 8 poly or so. Pretty pleased with this now, good shine but a few little bits in it as no booth. Will polish out I'd say.

Colour looks characterful rather than blotchy so I reckon you're ok. :)
I'm with you actually, initially I was really disappointed with this, but building the clear on it now I quite like it. The body does look like one piece of wood which it isn't, and you can see from the grain it is mahogany not basswood. Can't be a whole lot more picky than that! Certainly prefer it to the option of a solid colour.
Amazing what more clear coats can do to bring out the best in things.
Looking good Andy and a great recovery from when you started staining.
Ok back from holidays and having another look at this. Invested $2.5 in a set of cream buttons for machine heads on eBay, and then found they don't fit the machine heads that came with the kit. So with some filing and fettling they do, and I think will look a whole lot better on this project than the chrome tops.
