After what seems like days searching the internet (whilst I should have been working.... shhhhh) I have settled on this for my method of finishing my neck:

Thanks for that tip. Low E on my Gotoh tune-o-matic bridge was slipping out every now and again. Took the bridge off the guitar, placed an old string on it, gave it a tap and then dragged the string in groove to "file" it out. Sorted.
It's these little insights I tune into this forum for.

When soldering pots first give them a scratch with a file or piece of sandpaper where you want to solder to clean the surface and grip it up (dust off any shavings/particles). Apply the soldering iron to the spot and build a little heat, then apply the solder so it flows into a pool. Remove the soldering iron and blow the area to cool it. This is just prepping the pot ready for the wires.
When you're ready to attach a wire melt some solder onto its tip, hold it onto the pot's solder blob, then apply the soldering iron onto the blob until it melts, remove the iron and cool. This should give you a nice clean connection and help to minimise the heat soak into the pot.
So a mate is coming around to redo all the soldering with me [emoji1605]
I gave it a crack, but “close enough is good enough” never cut it with me!
Having said that, I am in awe of how good it looks!!
