Probably could clear coat the plastic but reckon there is a fair chance it will wear off through playing. Just gotta look at a 5 year old axe played with a pick to see what I mean.

I've started clear coating the body. 2x coats last weekend and 2x more this weekend. I think i'll stop after these as it doesn't need to be thick.
Not much to show for this step, but in the meantime I thought I'd try to darken the fretboard as it was a bit too light brown.
So I mixed some keda dyes black in water and after a nice sand I applied over the fretboard.

Should look better with the theme. I'm considering applying a very thin coat of wipe on poly to seal it a bit... still thinking
This is coming up well, looks amazing
That darker shade on the Fret Board looks great Fred.
So, I've progressed the neck while the body cures.
I had to make an 'eye' for this droid... so I cut the top of a plastic spray bottle:

I painted it black and red and glued it on one if the blue rectangles :

Then applied a logo leftover from my first guitar and the 'guitars' part of the pitbull guitar logo... (sorry for cutting it! [emoji1] )
I added the location the guitar was made, the year and serial number (#5 already!) to the back.

Nice Fred! Your offspring will be wailing in no time!
And then I used my weathering kits and smoke wash to make it look like it's spent some serious time in space or on some adventures at least!
And I applied the first coat of gloss.

I've got a gloss run on the back of the headstock... always have to go too heavy handed even though I know I should stop before! Anyway... we'll fix that later
All too easy to do. Also easy to flatten off with sandpaper. I'd apply a couple more gloss coats and leave the flattening until you've got some clear coat depth, otherwise you are liable to rub through to the silver.
So I decided that the clear coats are cured, and I polished the body and neck.
Looking quite shiny now

Also tackled the wiring, I had to connect the 2x test pickups sent by Adam which was pretty basic, and also the 3x LEDs.

I still have to decide if I reuse the little control unit that was driving them to keep the flashing functions, or if I just hook them up to a couple batteries with a resistor...
Here's the control unit, it should fit in the trem cavity.
