Right. So the neck is now 90% done. Just waiting for a few decals from our good friend Andyport to do the final coats of tru on the stock/volute.

and finally the first shot of the body after a few coats

hard to get a good shot in indoor lighting at night (will get some daylight shots at some point during the process) but it is starting to build up to a nice sheen. Will probably be doing around double the coats on the body currently.
Finish overall is probably over halfway now. Build has been slower than I'd hoped but it is finally coming to a head.

Looking great Nick, getting a nice gloss. I wouldn't use any more tru oil on the fingerboard. Use some Dingo wax will make it sliperier to play
-
Whoops double post. Give the coats a couple of days curing Nick with the cooler weather
-
Looking great Nick! How does the tru-oil feel on the fingerboard?
cheers,
Gav.
-
That was the plan Wokks.
Gav - the board feels good but I will be waxing it to slick it a little bit more. I only did about 4 coats of tru on there because I wanted to keep it relatively thin. We'll see how it goes under pressure when it's all built ;)
-
Wow, Nick. The neck looks great. And like Gav asks, how does it feel under the fingers?
-
It is a little bit grippy at the moment but I think over the curing process it will become harder/more glassy.
I did some backtracking to my last coat of tru an it appears that the first week of September should be around the time it is cured enough to continue the build. After that it will just be fit and setup of parts. :D
This waiting is going to kill me.
A new kit is on the way for Nov/Dec delivery too. ;) things will be getting a bit more modern on that one!
-
what's the new kit you ordered Nick ?
thats why some of us have 5 or so builds on the go at once so there is always something to work on while others cure !
-
It's an IB7 with hardtail, quilt veneer and a maple neck. :D
-
holy cow that should be a great kit, must be a custom order. Presume they don't route out the trem and bridge cavity, will it have a tune o-matic style bridge or a flat bridge that sits on the deck ?
