Build #2 - Doublecut custom

Thanks fellas! Whilst I’ve still got a way to go in understanding electronics, I’m starting to realise how I developed my playing style over the past 30 years or so. I.e I tend to favour the neck pickup for lead, and work up and down the strings with my right hand to reach different tonal qualities rather than use the controls, and use the bridge pickup more for rhythm as I find it cuts through a mix better. All because of my (relatively) modern LP wiring (maybe, or it could just be a 30 year accumulation of bad habits!)

Hey whatever works for you.
There has been a lot of BS written on guitar wiring, other than push/pulls and active wiring nothing has really changed in 50 years.
With all audio based electronics the quality of your components is the most important factor along with good solder joints and sheilding.

Well, the Dimarzio Dual Sound pickup was introduced in 1971, so that was the commercial start of coil-tapped pickups (49 years ago). EMGs first came on the market in 1976 (44 years ago). Push-pull and push-push pots were certainly around in the early 1970s, so you could say that things have been pretty stagnant for the past 44 years! Of course there has been a lot of finessing of some bits and pieces, but generally people haven't tried to fix what wasn't broken.

The Fishman Fluence range of PCB coil pickups are probably the newest development in pickup design that's of any major significance, but even then, they are only a variation on a theme.

I have to admit the camera is being kind here as there are still some imperfections that wouldn’t stand up to close scrutiny but overall I’m much happier with the finish. I may keep going or accept those blemishes as character, I’ll decide ahead of glueing the neck...
Meanwhile I’m keen to get the fretboard looking a bit more yellowy and have been experimenting with mixing some of the leftover DT gold with a little butterscotch left over from my first build. I’ve applied a very light coat and plan to finish with Tru-Oil. Once all the topside of the guitar is done I’ll glue the neck, then finish the back with DT Karijini Red, hoping for a nice deep tone with not too much shine...

Hah! I know the feeling. I tend to publish photo's that are taken from the "best angle" too.
TBH, I'm sure most of the imperfections I see in my own work wouldn't be noticed by most people anyway. Especially from 2 metres away!

Now that I think of it, I'm officially implementing the "Two Metre Rule" from now on!

Am I right in thinking the neck should be slightly angled away from the body?
With the bridge in its lowest position and the neck pushed in flush, the action is unplayably high at the top frets but angling the neck away lines it up nicely.
I was going to mark the side of the neck at the best angle with a pencil then make a wedge shaped shim for the neck pocket. Does this seem sensible?
