But in my excitement, I accidentally knocked the headstock against the table and this happened...

After much cursing and swearing, I've decided to fix this. I don't think it will be hard to touch up. I repaired dings and chips before but the fact that I destroyed it just after making it perfect just made me really sad. :( Don't think I'll be able to get it perfect again but some drop fills with lacquer or even super glue should do the trick. I think the dye is still in the wood.
Some more shots of both the neck and body. I think I may have to re-sand some low shiny areas on the body.

Apart from that stupid chip and some low spots on the mahogany back, I think I'm pretty satisfied with this rattle can job. This is probably the best high gloss finish I've ever done. It only took me 6 tries hahaha.
Looking amazing Simon.
cheers,
Gav.
Looks awesome Simon, great job

Thanks guys. Appreciate it.
Wow it has almost been a month since I buffed it out. I was working on the bass and was also waiting for a hard case but thanks to Auspost that hard case is lost and I don't know where it is. I was holding out for the hard case before assembling but enough was enough so I bought a gig bag locally instead. I think I have too many hard cases anyway haha. Of course I'll be getting a refund.
So I hereby present to you, my second build. I will take better pictures with my DSLR on a better day of course. I just spent the last 2 days trying to wire it together, only to find out the problem was with the pot, not my wiring!
Specs:
Hardware:
Gotoh SG318 tuning machines
Kluson modern string retainer
Wilkinson 5+1 contemporary tremolo
Electronics:
Seymour Duncan JB (trembucker) in the bridge
Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck
5 way super switch wiring: 1. bridge, 2. bridge (north) + neck (south), 3. bridge + neck, 4. neck (north) + bridge (south), 5. neck
500K audio Push pull volume pot, with a blower switch to bypass all electronics and send the bridge pickup straight to the output jack, plus treble bleed mod.
500K audio tone pot with Fender's grease bucket tone circuit.

I apologise for so many photos of the top - it's just too pretty!
very tasty Simon. Is that bridge set a little high so you can pull up on the whammy bar?
cool, so how is the string action at 24th fret with the higher set bridge?
Never apologise for too many pics! I could look at photos of that thing all day.
Well I must have measured it wrongly because the action was too low to begin with. Hence I also had to raise the entire bridge and the saddles. I could use a shim and may consider using a shim in future but I'll like to see how it holds for now.
Also because I had to raise the saddles higher the string break angle is a bit too much. Plus I'm using 10s on this as I only had them lying around. Hence I think these two factors result in quite a stiff feel. Bending isn't as easy and slinky as the first guitar. I may eventually have to shim the neck to lower the action if it still doesn't feel as fun with 9s.
Here's a jam showcasing the clean, OD and dirty tones. Man this guitar sounds great!

Apologies for the out of tune bends. I used 10s on this and I'm not used to it yet! Also sorry for the out of focused camera. I fixed this in the later demo videos to come.
Wow sounds awesome Simon. Great playing too you are the riff master. What was the track some of it sounded familiar?
You should be really proid of this guitar, looks and sounds awesome.

Looks and sounds amazing , Simon, you have built a pro quality axe mate
Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Woks the track is a slow blues jam made by one of the YouTubers QuistJam. You can check him out as he regularly uploads jam tracks.
Another more comprehensive demo. The SD pickups sound great.

sensational demo Simon, I am impressed at the amount of different styles you can play. You have really been gifted with long fingers. Heard some SRV, Dire Straits, Hendrix, ZZ top and EVH (of course !) and many more riffs. You have the full package buddy great scratch builder and wicked player, this axe has all the tones and sounds any player would want or need !
How long have you been playing and where how did you learn to play all that stuff ?
Super playing, super demo, super strat!
