I have 1 question though, this is how my 'bigsby' style bridge came, does this look right? To me it seems to be sitting too high... And when I push the trem bar down the spring clicks (did not do this whilst it was sitting like this, I squeezed it in my hands).

I would love to buy, but can't currently afford a genuine Bigsby so I want this to work :(
Also does anyone know where I can get a genuine silver Gretsch pick guard bracket? I can only seem to find the gold as a 'spare part' the Gretsch one has a slightly different shape so the pick guard sits up differently then with the current bracket that came with my kit.
Hi Shazz, mock build looks excellent. I think you have the neck pup surround in the bridge cavity, try swapping them and the bridge height should look about the right height. I think once strings are on the wammy bar should come down but of the 50 odd kits I've built I've never had a Bigsby on one. The other GR builders can probably help you with the pickguard or if you buy the material have a crack at cutting your own
Noice!
The Bigsby will settle down once under string tension so don't worry about any weird clicks it makes now.
Hey Wokka, I did have them the wrong way around! I realised afterwards doh!!
Hopefully when I actually fix hem they're in right :p
It's not the pick guard it's self it's just the silver bracket that fixes it to the body. The Gretsch one has a bend in it where as the kit one is flat.
I hope the bar comes down, it just seems to be really high and not sitting on the spring right. I'll try have a look through the forum and see :) cheers
hey shazz, looks the biz! once the guitar is strung up and has settled in , you could always put a strategic bend in the trem arm so it suits you better
Great work Shazz. I put a B70 Bigsby on an ES-2V a little while ago. The trem is pretty much the same as what you have and once the string tension is there, the spring compresses and brings the arm down. Don't know what instructions came with your kit but this is the Bigsby installation sheet, had to reduce the size a bit so not sure how clear it will be.

Not sure if you already knew how to wrap the strings around the bars of the bridge. Hope this is helpful.

The reason why the trem arm is like that is because there's no string tension acting on the system, incidentally, guitars with those Bigsby Trems fitted tended to have rather thick gauge strings, like say 52s, not only that, the G-string would be a wound type rather than the plain type as found on Fender Strats, you'll probably find that once the guitar is tuned to pitch the trem-arm will sit closer to the body of the guitar.
Don't do anything to the trem until you have got it strung up to tension, and even then wait until you have had the chance to play it like it is for a while. Like DB said the strings will bring it right down. I am confident that once you have done this you will discover that no bending will be necessary
Hi Shazz, just had my first experience with a Bigsby (B5 in my case, but they are the same principle) and mine looked pretty much like yours before I strung it up. I only use 9-42 strings and even with those I had to shim the spring with a 5c piece because it was too low. So I doubt you will have a problem.
Cold bending is the usual way if required and you could also look at a replacement spring, either shorter or longer as required, presuming that they are the same size as a real Bigsby.
Lots of luck with fixing the strings to the Bigsby. Mine was a nightmare. Make sure you google before you do it. I wish I had. I found that using a capo to hold the string in tension was the best method.
Your guitar looks stunning, great job.

Hey Rob, thanks heaps for the info. I was reading on the bigsby site that people either use. 5c piece to lift it up (as you have) or they remove the plastic washer to lower it. I don't have the smallest hands for a woman so the stock height should be ok so hopefully I won't need to bend the bar.
I've looked at how to string them up and it doesn't look fun! Haha might have to get my husband to help :p
Thanks also for the compliments, I'm stoked and can't wait for it to be finished :)
Hey ShazzRandom, you're doing great, keep it up.
I built this same kit earlier this year. Using EB 11s it sits up about 2 1/2 inches from the body. Works great.... eventually

Woo received my wax today!! AusPost didn't lose this package thankfully!
I'm expecting to have that summer body from the workout that this wax application is going to Be!
I'm still waiting on my stuff after 2 orders lost....
Same here. AP left me a card the other day. Went to the post office, they cannot locate the package arrrgghh!

There was this time not long ago I had ordered some decorations for a party. On the Friday, The stupid driver marked it as delivered and I was watching the online tracking as it changed I went down the front (of my office) and no package insite or call card/pick up card. The guy came back on Monday and said 'oh sorry'... It sucked that I needed the decos for the Saturday...
Geez..what on earth is going on with Australia Post?, this one time I was waiting on a parcel to arrive and I went down and checked my mail box, there was a parcel card inside with the message "Final Notice" written on it, I went to the post office to pick up the parcel and explained to the person serving me that the card was the only one I had received and I didn't recall getting any prior ones.
Hope those decorations haven't been lost and that they arrive soon.
Also another experience here, twice we had registered parcels arrive at our doorstep last year, once was a Christmas present for me. Instead of leaving a card and taking it to the post office, they actually left it there and signed as an R.Kelly, which nobody in the family who is alive has a first name with the initial of R.
Pro tip for stringing the Bigsby.
Bend the string as close to the ball end as possible, I usually bend it about 30 degrees :)
The body is officially complete (stain/wax) I am so stoked with the finish! Just putting together the time lapse of the waxing :) Attachment 6898
Finish looks nice. How did you find the wax application?
