Don't get me wrong, she's a metalhead from way back but I think she was all Mastodon'd out by the end of it.Quote:

simply stunning Barge.. What an awesome build
just finish this already, dying to see it done, love it
like the others said Barge everyone has fallen in love with this build. Just let me know if it will be entered in November GOTM and I'll enter my worst build haha
@ Tim, Stan, Wokka hey cheers for the feedback guys, you motivated me to finish it Stan so thanks man. I don't think I've seen a bad guitar come out of the 4D camp yet Wokks so I'm sure whatever you're putting up will be awesome.
I'm still not really sure I understand how you are able to be just so darn good at this building thing, man.
So jealous. So very, very jealous.
Cheers Brodie, man I still have shitloads to learn but I suppose as long as do your very best and try to improve a little each time I guess that's all we can ask for really.Quote:

So first impressions upon tuning up, intonating and actually playing are encouraging.
First thing that hits you upon plugging in is that it's damn quiet, not something you usually associate with Tele's.
I've made zero adjustment to the bridge height (other than by eye when I screwed the posts in) and action wise it's actually pretty nice other than fretting out somewhat above the 15th in places. Will need to do a bit of fine tuning and may have to screw the treble side up slightly.
The second quite striking thing is the natural resonance this thing produces, there's a distinguishable and pleasant high/mid ring that emanates from the string through area back up through the guts of the body and seems to compliment the bassy "Invader" nicely.
As far as the tone control goes there's pretty much no audible variation across the 3 switch settings and I may have to replace the 0.047uF with a 0.022uF and see if that makes a difference, as it stands right now the tone control is just an ornament :P
The over wound "Invader" is a very loud, very precise pickup and I'm pleasantly surprised as to the tonal qualities of the series, split, parallel wiring options.
The parallel setting (back) is by far the loudest option with some nice deep bass, cutting mids (especially noticeable using distortion) and crisp highs whilst the split setting (middle) is in contrast the thinnest of the sounds with a ringy treble, pronounced mid twang and a lot less bass, the series setting (forward)is a similar tone to the split setting but with a bit more presence and slightly richer mids.
As Pabs pointed out in another thread these Bournes pots stick out a fair bit off the body and I might have to throw some extra nuts on the inside of the control plate to bring them down somewhat, no biggie.
Will throw up a demo when I get some spare time.

looks gorgeous.
A truly epic beast. Well done dude, I think this has surpassed everyone's expectations. As for the pots, I used some 3/8" split washers I found at Repco for $2 or $3 for 20. Worked a treat.
Cheers AJ, cheers Pabs. Orr yep cool beans I'll definitely look into some of those washers. it looks kinda dorky the way it is:P
Wow this has turned out spectacularly. Very metele
another stunning Barge build, well done mate, you have blown the forum away once again and I'd be hiding this one from the tele napper, luckily you live far enough away !
Fantastic result Barge, looks amazing.
Fantastic job! 99.99% perfect. Does the pickguard go over the edge of the cutaway on the bass side, or is that just a trick of the camera angle?
Thanks heaps guys, appreciate the kind words:-)
@fretty yeah you picked it out correctly, it's hanging over about 1.5 at it's greatest distance. I contemplated taking it back flush but decided I'd sooner retain the flow of the pickguard vs grinding a mm (or so) away. We'll get in right on the next one hehe:-)
well spotted Fretty, Barge you may lose 1/4 of a point for that mate, and you know how much DB likes pickguards haha
:-)
You blokes are gonna drive me to fix it aren't ya, I won't be able to sleep tonight now...
up to you Barge but you know when the standard of entries are generally so high judges are looking for the tiniest faults to separate the podium !
Loved this build from start to finish. All class mate.
Cheers Nick.Quote:

Just a little update. It was bought to my attention that I hadn't put as much attention to detail into this build as I could of, so.... I think we're cool now:-)

Ah dude, you shoulda said something. I could have easily done you another one. Still can if you want.
nice one Barge, now you should be able to sleep tonight ! haha
Nah shit it's all good Pabs! It was actually a pretty easy fix with the Dremel.Quote:

That's what I love about this community, it's the small stuff that makes all the difference and the people on here really take pride in that sort of thing, it's awesome:-)
@wokks yeah man I reckon I will sleep a lot better now, especially since I'm gonna go celebrate my new baby with a quiet beer or six!!
congratulations Barge, little boy or girl ?
don't stop at 6 beers mate or you will be kicked out of the naughty room !
Guitars are traditionally girls I believe Wokka. :P
I've just smashed 2 1/2 while I've been sitting here chatting so I think at this rate we'll easily surpass 6.Quote:

Anyway after using all that nitro on this build I reckon I'll be shut in the naughty room and the key thrown away:-)
Dead right Pabs, it's a girl!!
congrats on the baby girl matey :)
WOW she is an absolute beauty. Awesome work
Here's those pics Weirdy, hopefully you can see what's going on.
I'm stumped, I can only imagine there must be a problem behind the scenes somewhere.
Cheers man.
Your layout looks correct so it's either a bad solder join or a faulty tone pot, I'm leaning towards the latter. A multimeter is your best option for testing, but failing that there's an easy test you can do.
Grab a small screwdriver and with the control plate exposed plug the guitar in and give it a strum then use the screwdriver to short between the tone pot's black wire lug and centre lug. That will essentially bypass the pot and give you max tone, so if the sound goes dark then you'll know the pot is bad.
If that doesn't work then grab a spare cap, strum and touch the cap's legs between the tone pot's black wire lug and the pot's back, then do the same thing on the volume pot's black wire outer lug and it's back. That'll narrow the issue down to the tone pot's connections or volume pot connection, respectively.
Teles are great for wiring problems because you can keep your strings on when troubleshooting
Caught in a purple haze, ready to hit the road.....
Just a little update Weirdy, I managed to get a bit of spare time (and motivation) the other evening to try out those couple of tests you suggested. Did the first one...no results...tried the second one with the cap....nothing...low and behold somewhere along the way I turned the tone knob only to discover it was working with some really nice variation, It's got me f#*ked coz I literally did nothing, obviously my poking, prodding and general fumbling was enough to frighten it into giving up a bit of tone.
Bloody guitar gremlins:-)
hehe just call it a successful bit of trouble shooting and enjoy the new tones.
New here Barge. I've looked through every awesome build in here and yours just blew me away! I've owned the Les Paul Jr Double cutaway but cudn't stand it. I'm too used to my Teles.'Then I saw your build and was like WOOOOOOW!!!!!!Everything about if pretty and functional and looks easy to play.
I hope you don't mind I want to use yours as a guideline for the one I want to build. They won't be identical. String through yes, buy only using a single coil pup maybe at the bridge without a switch and only a volume control. The single control pot is destined to come through the back hence no plate and I doubt I will put a scratch guard on my at all. I also want to do a 3x3 headstock.
I really hope you don't mind!!
This is just insane!!! Barge!!! I've post some more in this one asking if you mind me using your as a guideline for one I want to build. They won't be exact, in fact I'm leaning towards purple for mine as is it my girls fave color. Let me know if you mind me using your as a guideline.
