haha yer, that was a massive possibility!!!
Hmmm.... Checked the back today, and I forgot to burst the butt end of the body, so there's an area where you can see a lighter patch of Dark Onyx there, and I accidentally went out too far on the butt end adn now that part has to be sanded back a bit...
I will manage it though, I'm planning on doing the base coat for the Dark Onyx next!!!
Hey guys, I got the third (and hopefully the last!) coat on the top!!!!

I am getting pretty excited now, I'm getting closer and closer to the finish line, most likely a contender for GOTM July!!!!
nice going there !
Did the silver highlights last night, they didn't really like being wiped away, but hopefully I can clean it up a bit tonight!!!!
I'll do the first top coat probably tomorrow night or Saturday night, I'm almost done!!!!
well done Pest, you may need to steel wool some areas where the highlights build up before the top coat.
Take your time with the top coats and wait at least 48 hours between coats. More thin coats are better than less thicker coats so don't go overboard with the top gloss.
Then its glue the neck and wiring !
The LP/SG are probably the 2nd hardest kit to wire up there's over 20 solder joins, and don't forget the earth wire before you knock in the tailpiece post !
Pest, what did you mean by "wiped away"....
You know you only apply highlights across the grain and you never wipe with the grain when applying highlights?
i wiped the excess away by going across the grain, like DB did in the video!
Pest, I'm wondering if your highlights had gotten a bit too old? Was the material the highlights were in very liquid or was it more dense/rubbery? My highlights don't seem to maintain much beyond 2-3 months....Quote:

It was about to go rubbery, it has been about 2 months since I got them.... DB, can ya send me some more silver highlights?? Also DB, check your email!!!
It has gone off, definitely! That's why it hasn't applied properly!Quote:

DAMN IT!!! Looks like the build is delayed by about a week, also, how will the top coat be after 2 months????
Top coat seems to last a bit longer than 2 months so should be alright. You really needed to have kept these in the fridge while you were waiting to use them. Put the top coat in the fridge ASAP to ensure it lasts the next month or two.
Top coat should be fine as long as you haven’t opened the bottle yet...
Guess I will have to send the Pest some more silver.....
and some more gloves DB!!!! I have 5 left, can i please have about 2 dozen more gloves???
nice work Pest, you must go through the gloves, I coat about 3 axes with 1 glove !Quote:

Yes Gav, I am eating them lol!!!
Nah, but I am tearing through them, because I can only do the top separately because I don't currently have a way to hang the body, so it's 1 glove per colour, then another glove for the blending, which means that each coat takes 6 gloves :P
Are the StewMac gloves okay for Wudtone application???
sure the Stewmac gloves should be ok Pest for wudtoning, as long as they are thick enough to stop any wudtone coming through the gloveQuote:

My first experience with wudtone I used cheap Ansell gloves from the supermarket and they were rubbish - broke too easily
callum you can buy nitrille gloves from repco or supercheap. mechanic grade very thick, never have a problem with them
Pest - went the other way with mine - no where I could be confident of hanging the bass body from, so I've inverted it and am now clamping it to a dirty great piece of rubbish wood I've got around to make sure it doesn't fall over. You may be able to see it in a couple of photos.
Hey guys, got some more highlights (Cheers DB!), I'll remove the coat of it tonight and do it again!!!! Can I remove the highlights without removing any colour coats???
Just give the body a rub with your steel wool and go in with the highlights again Pest :)
Okie Dokie DB, will do tomorrow then (i hope)!!!
I forgot to mention that you can tidy up the burst effect with steel wool as well.
by careful rubbing you can get a very nice feathered edge on the transition of the outer to inner colour.
Sweet, will do that on the treble side (mostly) of the burst!!!!
Hey guys, I just got back from the garage, and now the highlights are applied!!! Now it's time to wait until Friday night, then I can start the top coats!!!!
EDIT: If the top coat doesn't go off, I'll finish this kit with a noice shine to it just before the 20th of July, plenty of time for the neck to settle and for me to get some demos done!!!
where's the photos Pest with the highlights bro, should be just enough light in sunny Melbourne ?
Nah, i'm letting it dry right now!! Pics up tomorrow though!!!
no worries Pest, hope the new highlights look good, so it was gold highlights you applied ?
No, it was silver! Gold highlights are planned for the StratoPester though!!
no worries Pest, after I sent my message I thought you would barely see gold highlights on golden rod so silver would be my choice too.
What colour is the stratopester going to be ?
I should have my hands on aramanthine in about an hour !
one other thing Pest, guess who's playing footy Sunday arvo - Freo and Roos - should be a good game, Good news I checked in Melbourne it's televised 3-6pm Sunday channel 7
Yes, i realized that game as well today..... The StratoPester is going to be a deep, rich red with Silver highlights mixed with the base coat, and gold highlights in the grain, and the neck will be vintage amber!!!!! The StratoPester is costing nearly $400 though, and I get anywhere between $20-$40/month, so that's at least a year from now to get it done, I wonder if Sky Music will employ me.... so I might do a pup winder instead!!!
Hey Pest! Congrats on the 1000 post milestone! Awesome contribution and dedication to the forum and being the welcoming committee!
Thanks Gavin, yes, I have made a massive contribution to this awesome forum, but it all could not have been possible without all of you awesome people!!!!
Pics up tonight, top coat pics up tomorrow night!
