Ye, I hate trying to pain in the cold and wet also. This one is really starting to come together nicely, good outcome there with your break angle.

Finally got around the applying the name badges on these 2.
I'm also waiting on the sun to come out today to apply the clear coat on Double Cut.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...49e2537dee.jpg
Looking good BD. Did you shape that volute on the tl neck, or did it come like that?

I'm fairly new to the forum and hadn't seen this thread yet. Great to see Tas Oak in a build! I just started my first ever build and used tas oak. 1m length of 200 x 50mm select grade that I had to square off and joint, so I've got a solid chunk of wood for the body. I know you're sandwiching yours with other wood, but what do you think about the weight of it?
The weight on these are perfectly acceptable. Nice and chunky without being too heavy.
Measuring, marking and layout fun tonight on the SC Junior.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...86ad07b709.jpg
This is where a trapeze tailpiece held on by the strap button screw helps to run strings across the bridge to ensure perfect alignment. Or just string taped to the rear end of the guitar if you don't have a spare trapeze tailpiece.
P90 cavity routed and bridge post holes drilled. Bridge earth and pickup wire channels also drilled. Given the imperfections on the face and the gaps where the floorboards join, I was going to originally veneer this mofo. But I've since become fond of the imperfections and I'm going to try just staining it as is. Let it all hang out, balls and all [emoji16] going to aim for a tobacco burst - I've got some keda aniline dyes I've been waiting to try out. We shall see.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d8c4ffbf1b.jpg
I just realised It's been a while in my lockdown haze that I've posted an update on the SC and DC. SC received it's first clear coat today so will wait till thru the week to apply headstock decal and hopefully the final round of clear next weekend weather permitting. DC will get a final coat on the headstock thru the week and then both leave to gas off for a while before final assembly on both.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...33182b2afc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...105da526e4.jpg
Thoughts on pickguard/knob scheme?
Leaning toward the tortoise with gold knobs me thinks.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0b90c9269e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c988b83649.jpg
The black is just vinyl wrap over the tortoise pickguard, so if I get sick of it I can just wrap it again and change the knobs I guess [emoji1787]
Here's the scheme for the DChttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...93bb27a27e.jpg
I'd use black knobs with the tortoise pickguard myself.
But a single ply pickguard would be more appropriate for a Jr, in which case I'd probably opt for a more traditional black guard and black knobs if it were mine.

Black and black for me.
Calling the DC done. The intonation has been ballparked in, but I will need to make further adjustments once the neck settles a bit on both relief and bridge height, but that is all to be expected. So far it feels and sounds killer. The G P90 is so nice and probably the most responsive pickup I've had that really interacts with the vintage 50's wiring in terms of behaviour of the volume and tone pots. I'm super stoked!!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a271a1d1d5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...144d47f9ae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9509e30b67.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...32731652f7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2eba5b5bff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7e206f3603.jpg
Audacious looking guitar, BD. Nice work.
Nice! I likes it!
I've tried P-90's a couple of times in different guitars, but never really got to liking them.
I think it's because they are so much their own thing, it confused me :o. They just don't sound or act like a single coil or a humbucker IMO.
I've never played anything with a P90 and I'm pretty intrigued by them. Love the end result here, gorgeous guitar.
Lovely work there. Glad it plays well too!

Great looking guitar. The colours go really well.
Super productive long weekend here W/O young humans around, so I'm calling the SC done as well. As per the DC, this still needs final intonation, neck settling and the usual minor tweaks etc. Again, plays and sounds exactly how I wanted it too. Not bad for what used to be floorboards in a past life. Yeow!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...62d3e18cf6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d1ccddcf13.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f26d92047b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e88f09e1cc.jpg
Nicely done man.
Two very nice looking guitars. Well done.
I notice there's a slight difference in the distance between the bridge and the pickup between the two guitars. It's not much, only a couple of mm at most I'd imagine. Do they sound much different as a result? If they do, I suppose it's hard to tell how much is pickup placement and how much the effect of the single vs double cutaway construction.
Thanks Simon. Yeah it's funny I only really noticed the difference in placement myself when I took that photo side by side. Don't know how that happened with all the measuring I did...I really cannot tell the difference between them at all sound wise. My favourite thing though is how well they both clean up and the interplay with the volume and tone knob with the P90. I have 50's wiring in Les Pauls with humbuckers, but this is really next level and so much more noticeable and interactive. Loving it.
Looking forward to the demos. Two very fine looking instruments.

Great work Mark. I am looking forward to the demo.
Did you use the shim?
I am about a week behind you. Start final assembly tomorrow.

What timber you got there?
Nice tidy work (as usual!). Too bad I'm just not a V-man...
Is that a PBG neck?
Looking great Bakersdozen.
