You put the wire down through to the bridge pickup and then into the control cavity. Pretty sure that's how it is on mine as well.
Edit: I didn't need to extend the wire (just reread your post) but if you do that's not a problem, it will fit.

Thanks so much! That makes me feel a lot better. Really happy with how it’s coming out. Got a few coats of clear on the neck and body and got some decals made from Rothko & Frost. Learnt a lot this build. Can’t wait to get into the next one.

Remember to lip the tape a little so it is esrthed against the control plate to form a Faraday cage, same with the pickup holes too.
