New CNC day -the best Easter I can remember !

All my PC's run on W10 (Creators Build) and only my server is on Windows Server Essentials 2016. Pretty stable and I install W10 on lot's of 'older' PC and I never ever had a PC that would run the OS.

XP was nice and as long as you keep it away from an internet connection you are save ;)

Our work computers have similar issues. All three PC's are physically identical, and purchased at the same time. The Boss trialed Win10 when it was first released to ensure it was stable enough, and then upgraded the other 2. Each one is different in some way. The Bosses comp is running a slightly different update to the others, and gets new updates a day or so before the others. Mine won't talk to our label printer, and cannot print double sided paper through our networked printer/fax. The Bosses PC can't print one particular report through our main business program. Just stupid!!

What version of Mastercam are you running? We used to use Mastercam but went over to Surfcam which was quicker (and licenses were a lot cheaper) to program. After looking at the spec on the machine it uses either G code or HP-GL or maybe both. I am now a retired toolmaker and used a lot of NC's but I used to use a Roland engraver that used its own version of software that was adequate for engraving but was less than desirable to do 3D which you would need to produce chamfers and radius edges. If it uses G code then just use Mastercam to do all your programming as it would be way easier to produce any shape and you need little or no programming experience as it does it all for you. We had a cheap wire cutter that used a form of software that ran on DOS that was garbage but seeing as it was a 2D machine then it was adequate but very limited. We got in touch with the Surfcam rep and all he had to do was have a sample program and once you produce a new version of a post processor with the correct header and footer we were up and running as the program used g code. Saves you from having to learn anything new and saves a step in the process of producing a product. G code is much more powerful than the old Hewlett-Packard code and Mastercam will allow you to produce any shape, can put chamfers and radius on corners/edges without having to have special tools as you just use a ball nose cutter to do both, can do body reliefs and can put a radius on the edge and again all with the same tool. On chamfers you can blend a radius so as there is no sharp edges and if done correctly the amount of sanding will be lessened greatly. The only thing I miss being retired is the machines I had at my disposal for making guitar parts.
