Bit of movement in the ib7 camp. Visited my uncle's shop on Thursday and got a TON of work done. We fashioned some pickuprings out of some spare flamed maple he had about. We then prepped the surfaces for stain.
After that, we drilled the neck holes on a press and drilled the holes for the pickup ring screws too.
Next, we scored a small well and painted a layer of shellac around the faux binding. This will keep both stains (top and bottom/sides) from bleeding through and also gave a nice honey tone.
Up next:
experimenting with dyes
staining top
clears
fashioning a truss rod cover out of the same piece of maple
Maaan she's looking pretty!

Those rings are super cool! Very classy. Faux binding looks sweet too. Great progress.

wow that looks like a swimming pool effect, well done Nicko, you must be stoked with the result.
Is it a blue dye of some sort ?
-
Yeah mate stoked! It's a water based dye by a company called U-Beaut Polishes (Aussie company obviously haha). I did it by laying a pretty heavy coat of concentrated dye and then pulled it very hard with a small bit of cloth + water. Came out an absolute treat. Very happy.

nice one, looks like the colour is deep enough with one coat.
That will pop like mad with clear coats. What clear coats you going with ?
-
Not too sure yet mate. Want to keep it satin so I'm gonna do a bit of research. :)
