If tung oil is on the list I may as well just move to the N.R.
I sand all my necks down to bare wood and coat them in tung oil. :D

I can't see how Tung Oil could be on the bad list as it's made from pure natural Tung trees.
My understanding is that all coatings Synthetic are frowned upon. Although I always thought Nitrocellulose was made from pure natural cellulose(cotton) soaked in pure natural Nitric Acid(concentrated rain water).
If there is any bitch about Tung Oil I would expect it would be when they add a bit of Polyurethane to make it glossy.
All hail the natural tung oil...

all resources are naughty until DB states otherwise...
yeah Fretty and Stan you are correct. We are all guilty of using a naughty product until proven inncocent !
Oh Well I may as well learn how to apply niitro then.... ROFL
ON to more inportant things..
The Neck. I have been putting a lot of effort and thought into this
The body is walnut, and I have done the heal in walnut as well. I've actually done it twice as I wasn't happy the first time around as there was too much exposed unfilled grain.
Anyhow, what I envisage is to have the heal walnut, and the back of the headstock in wanut as well with the back of the neck effectively natural colour. with the face of the headstock either Walnut or Black(my pref is Black)
The pics attached is
1. where the neck is now
2. is a Vintage neck along the lines I am thinking.

I've walnutted the back of the neck. and relicked the back of the neck so that the back of the fretboard area is still maple.
I intend to try and Amber this a little I've started this by using soem wudtone aged gloss, but may switch to good old shellac to get that old warm Amber look to it. Certainly the Maple and the walnut contrast too far, so I want to soften that a bit.
I've deliberately left the colour taper long at the headstock end as I want to hide the scarffed neck joint.
I still have to make a decision on the face of the headstock. whether to do it Black or just amber it down.
I'd like to put some pearloid gothic decals on it and it might look a bit pale agains the Ambered maple

great work Paul, you nailed the neck, this will look very retro, nice job.
Tks Stan.
I am trying to get that reliced look Still a bit more to go on the neck. The decals I am after come from Japan so might be a few weeks before that gets finished.

The decals look great PK. I've used these before a couple of times and they are great. Neck is looking really nice too. This baby is really coming together!
