Woltz's Violin/Fiddle Build

So cool. Not sure I'd ever attempt a violin, but it definitely provides some inspiration seeing a project like this take shape.

Yep, honestly sometimes jigs or things like this you put together at home work better than something off the shelf because you make it exactly as you need it to be.

The neck is a glued dovetail joint. I have to carve it out of the body in a future step.

Thanks mate, I'm just trying to take it slowly and methodically because I've paid the price of not being patient already with the guitar building haha.

Thanks mate. I think this will give me a solid foundation to do an Acoustic Guitar and a Hollow Body Electric in the future.

The block you see is all there is, nothing extra. As Woltz says, there's a dovetail insert in the block that needs to be made to fix the neck into, but that's it.

I've been a bit slow getting things done over the last few weeks but here is an update.

The mortices for the linings in the C bouts have been cut.

The linings are almost ready to be glued in, they just need to be planed down to the correct thickness first. I also reduced the Belly and Back down to the correct thickness and cut out the rough outline. Next step is to file the edges down to my pencil line and then I can start on the carving.

Here is the list for the whole instrument.

Belly - Douglas Fir/Oregon Pine (Thors Timber, it was a reclaimed piece)
Back and Ribs - Southern Silky Oak (From a tree a work colleague cut down a couple of years ago)
Linings - Spruce (From a mate who is also building a violin right now)
Corner Blocks - Douglas Fir/Oregon Pine
Neck - Rock Maple (Monaro Timber)
Fingerboard - Ebony (Simply for Strings)
Pegs - Ebony (Simply for Strings)
Nut - Ebony (Simply for Strings)
Saddle - Ebony (Simply for Strings)
Endpin - Ebony (Simply for Strings)
Bridge - Maple (Simply for Strings)

I haven't made the sound post or bass bar yet so I haven't decided what I'll use for those, probably Spruce or Douglas Fir.

This may be a most ridiculous question but, how come the close pegs are used upside down?
