So in lockdown for 7 days, good time to do some guitar stuff.
Got all enthused about fitting fret dots but...........

Yea exactly, somewhere along the way i lost one so went online to an Aussie site and ordered more.
Fitted standard chrome tuners to see what they looked like, a lot better than the rabbit ear ones i made, live and learn.

So now another wait until my new fret markers arrive.
Btw anyone replace the side dot markers, im wondering whether to try or highlight with white paint and clear over the top?
You didn't fancy cutting one in half and sticking some other material on the back to make up the height? ;)
So this is gonna be another slow build. Progress so far........body has been prepared and primed, 6 coats. The metallic black has been applied, 5 coats and its now had 4 coats of 1k clear. Ive left it for 4 weeks and its now ready for additional coats.
The neck mop fret markers are finished. Might still add few more coats of wipe on poly, and thats it for now.

So after some time had elapsed i decided to finish the final coats on my tele body but alas it wasnt to be. i thought it would be a great idea to unscrew the tried and tested stick that i had screwed to my tele body and had used for my last 3 builds and attack one that could be fitted into a contraption that i had built to rotate it for final spraying.
You guessed it, the screws pulled out and damaged the body. back to the drawing board.

So next i started to build up coats again. When i thought i had nearly finished i checked the finish one morning and it had all crazed!
Back to the drawing board. This time instead of repriming i sanded then applied clear , sanded again the applied more clear untill i had nicely filled up all the craze.

Finally i gave the finsh a cut with 4800 compound then another cut with 9000 paste and then a final buff with car wax/polish.
Now ready for the wiring and hardware. YAY!

So another halt to the project and i was sooo careful, i really was. Drilled very slowly on a soft but firm surface.
But wasnt good enough. CRAAACCKKK.
So now waiting for a new Pickguard.

As the song says "And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do" Seems like something like that always happens right at the end.
Yea, i hear ya. Spent ages finding the mirror pickguard so was on the search again. just by fluke i was cruising through Pibulls guitar shop and they have one, with the predrilled holes for the lipstick pickup. Lifesaver. I wont be doing that again. Cheers.
FWIW I just bought a couple of cheap alnico lipstic tube pickups on Amazon. I can point you to them if you like. I took one of them apart...and they seem to be genuine alnico not ceramic as you often find in cheap pups. Checked resistance and inductance specs and they seem to be in the ballpark ;-) Would look cool on a Tele with a mirror pickguard ;-)
This is the set im putting in, they look really cool, i bought them about 3 years ago but cheers for the suggestion, much appreciated.
