Nice job FW. My eyes were playing tricks on me It kinda looks like a clear pickguard when its on because its all black. very cool.

It looks a little more like this now.
I've got 2 more finals on the neck and then I'll actually have to find some PUPs for it!
Edit: rSimon, I have reshaped the upper horn, rest easy, it’s just not shown in this earlier pic.

Battleship grey?
Single coil set recommendations, blues/rock/jazz stylings with attempted leaps into Hendrix-esque trippiness........
.....and go!
Checkout the Tonerider website for their Strat PUPs as they have really good video sound clips to help you choose.

I’m loving my Tonerider City Limits set, covers those bases well for me.
Had a rethink on this, the Korean ST Pups have gone into this one and the toneriders into the Korean ST.
Have doweled the Headstock, as there was a serious string/tuner alignment issue. More to follow.
So....this had sat for a bit while one fo the earlier experiments took shaping precedence. As of last week both this and Experiment 2 were at wiring stage.
Having not wired anything for a bit, I hit this one first as it’s a standard simple 3P, 5WS, 1V, 2T Strat.

I really like how that ironwood board came up, it plays nice in the hands, but there may be some adjustments needed. 1st fret height is spot on but there’s some silliness down at 21.
TR is cranked a bit to see if that brings it back, there was some bow taking up once the strings went on, so it’s going to be a while settling down.
Nearly There!

Nice, but I'm confused...
are you a righty, or lefty that plays upside down??? :p
It’s for Igor. He was made with two left arms.......
So as an update, it sounds, surprisingly, rather like a Strat!
The FrankenLab manufactured neck adjusts well and feels good under fingers. The ironwood board looks great and despite all the monkeying about with repositioning the tuners (Twice) it holds tune really well.
The only real down side has been I cut my E string slot a hair too deep so I have a first string buzz issue. I am going to craft a brass nut for it. I know I said never again, but it’s only an F style nut How hard can it be?[emoji51][emoji12]
The adjustment I made to the heel height has induced some back angle, so at some point I will need to address that, but for the moment a StewMac .25 degree shim has corrected it enough to sit the action where I like it.
I will eventually get around to correcting some of these smaller things as time goes by. I will also eventually get around to doing a sound demo for it.

Sooooooo, it’s been a while on this one. I persisted with it in its current form but without a specially crafted body, that puts the controls in a place that isn’t a massive pain in the butt, upside down strats are not a great idea. Unless you’re Jimi. Or apparently Steve Millar.
But one impulse purchase later, we have a pristine (Right Handed!) American Ash body from Adam, so now to hack it to bits....

Guess I’ll have to patch that hole in the neck now.

That's what Igors are for.
Nice work.
Slowly progressing in between painting and staining and fettling of other things...

I still have to strip the headstock and redo the veneer on it, drill out and plug the original neck mount hole and probably add some side dots. The scratch plate is a proof of method from cheap Bunnings acrylic. It’s too thick and horrible to work with, so I need to get in some actual 2mm pick guard material. The observant will find the faulty pup cut out rout fairly quickly I would imagine. But the template is good as far as shape, so we will persist.

I was glad to read that the black pickguard is just a template. At first I thought "woah, someone strums hard with metal picks".
I love the grain on the body, should look tasty when finished.
Oh, and clear out your PMs :)

Lol! At least you will not need to pop the grain with grain fill.

Yikes! Is everyone OK?
You let Igor play with a naked flame? Isn’t he flammable after all the formaldehyde?
