Thanks. Flamed maple tops are great to work with. I'm not afraid to sand back unlike with veneers.

looks great and the warm burst finish is spot on
Dang Simon! This guitar is special.
Even better than the last one. Very awesome work
Thanks guys. I've just started the clear coat process so hope that turns out well. I'm going for a high gloss finish.
look forward to pics after clear coats Simon, hopefully that flame maple veneer will really pop. No doubt it will
First coat of clear

Third coat of clear on the body. Notice the disgusting orange peel. I'll try level it out more and probably wet sand after a few more coats. I'm using rattle cans so this is expected.

Although the horns aren't as dark as I would like them to be, I'm quite happy with it so far. And it's impossible to have a dust free finish so I'll have to keep checking for dust nibs and lightly sand them off. I've also come to accept the fact that I can't get a 100% perfect finish with my setup but I've achieved some pretty impressive rattle can jobs in the past.
wow that is looking excellent Simon. Love your drying rack and coat hangers.
What sort of clear coats are you using ?
Haha I've been using the same rack since I started building guitar kits back in 2013. It's wobbly, old and rusty but it still keeps the guitars hanging. Sometimes I do get paranoid the guitars would drop but so far the metal hangers really support the weight well.
I'm using SuperCheapAuto's homebrand acrylic lacquer. I've also been using these for a few years and they're great. Cheap, hardens up well and buffs out nicely. My guitars finished with these are holding up great.
Oh hell naww what's this mess on the floor?

have you had orange peel on previous builds Simon ? Maybe the coats underneath hadn't fully cured ?
what are the plans on the floor, your next build ?
Oh, hey, what's going on in this thread...

Amazing! That finish! The binding! That freakin bass!!!!!!!
Yes I've had orange peel in the past. I think it has largely to do with the spraying technique and the rattle cans. It's hard to get an even flow out of them. But I guess they aren't a big deal because I can always level them out later.
The stuff on the floor? ;)
yeah Simon wondered the 100 x A4 sheets stuck together, is that your next build ?
Simon you have caught DB's bug of being secretive hahha
is it a bass build the next one ?
I like having secrets. It gives me power...hahhaa
Yes I've planned for a 6 string neck through singlecut bass. Ambitious project but I want to see what I can do. Hopefully things will turn out well and I've not bought any hardware (except for the bridge) lest I end up with something that doesn't work and wasted money!
sure you will build a sweet 6 string bass Simon!
I can't keep up Simon your an unstoppable guitar building machine! I'm looking forward to this build already

Nooooo it's going to be a rainy week! This will push back my finishing schedule! :(
Unlucky Simon. At least you finally have an avatar
Rain, rain, piss off!
Where are you Simon? The weather couldn't be better for guitar finishing in S. E. Queensland today.
Pity I've got (in her opinion) MORE IMPORTANT jobs to do!
Simon must be something else you can work on while you wait for the rain to stop ?
We had a wet and wild week in Perth last week but this week is sunny and 20 degrees
Simon, you could always let build #2 cure in your apartment and start the bass build. Just have a big dust clean up with the vacuum when weather is good enough to spray build#2 !
Simon make the most of all the spare time you have so sounds like a plan
Applied the waterslide decals since the weather isn't good.

logos look cool Simon !
Thanks woks. This whole weekend is raining pretty bad. Some warnings have been issued by the NSW government.
Didn't manage to spray since last Tuesday but hopefully but Wednesday all should be fine.
I didn't let the rain stop me from working though! ;)
Weather today is great! A bit windy but no rain and humidity is low enough to spray!
Good stuff Simon and glad that rain has passed! It got quite intense over Saturday night...
