Awesome mirror finish Gav, you are the true master of the White Knight acrylic finish!
Loving the shine on this one. May need some pointers when I get to doing mine.
Gav beautiful shine, this looks fantastic.
Jeebus that looks great and none of the hardware is on yet!
Thanks guys for all the kind words. Looking forward to getting this one assembled.
cheers,
Gav.
major cool there Gav, nice work
Looks like it has been dipped in resin it is that shiny.
It's amazing how good a few zaps with the rattle can can look, just by applying the lessons learned in the jarrod clear coating academy:
Part 1: https://youtu.be/IlJs-JCKRKE
Part 2: https://youtu.be/yEoqbB5E8vg
This approach works just as well with rattle can acrylic as for spray equipment. Can't thank Jarrod enough for these lessons!!
cheers,
Gav.
So roughly your process was:
1. Stain
2. Clear Acryllic
3. Ultimate Compound.
I'm doing a cherry mahogany GR-1SF, and unsure at this stage if I want to give it a glossy finish, and yours is making me lean towards doing it.
Hey Gav, what happened to the tremolo bridge you mentioned on page 1?
Hey guys,
A little more work today on the ash mosrite. I have decided to create adjustable pickguard mounts for the P90s. A bit late in the game for such changes but hey it's been that kind of build. I got some 20mm x 3mm aluminium bar and made some mounting plates, with holes drilled in the position of the existing P90 mounting screws. A couple of more holes and the P90s now mount like humbuckers to the underside of the scratchplate.
The only problem now is that the routes will need to be extended about 8mm to the left to accommodate the new mounting plates. A bit of a bugger given the nice gloss finish I have created ;). I think some cardboard taped down over the finish should protect it enough from the router. Only one way to find out!
cheers,
Gav.
top work Gav, cant wait to hear the P90 goodness
Tense moments coming up, Gav, with the extra routing! The cardboard should do the trick protecting the finish though.
Don't slip!
Hey guys,
Well the routing is done and finished. It's rough (I freehanded the whole thing with the trim router) but the pups fit and the scratchplate tells no tales. The cardboard worked well under the trim router.
Today I got the wiring done and shielded the cavity with snail tape. Tap test shows everything working as expected. Found that I'm missing a couple of tuner bushings and screws. I may have lost them somewhere along the line. Might need to steal a new set of tuners from the stack - the minister of finance has put a block on new hardware purchases for the short term ;).
Anyway she's coming together. It's been a uncooperative build all things considered, so I'll be glad to get her plugged in and over-driven.
cheers,
Gav.
A cracker of a build Gav, not long before you can blast those P90's!
Thanks Andrew! more of a temperamental build than I've had in a long time. Maybe it's me ;).
Anyway I found the missing screws and bushings. Can anyone guess where?? Yes - stuck to the back of the pickup :P. Anyway I got the tuners installed but unfortunately one of the tuners is deformed and has the hole drilled way too low

I managed to squeeze the string through with a little coaxing, but I'll see if Ads maybe has a replacement lying around somewhere.
It's pretty cool having her strung up now. I need to do a complete neck overhaul, but I just wanted to see how she looked :).

Love the finish the guitar looks real nice.
Thanks Tony :). She's getting there finally.
cheers,
Gav.
Looking good Gav. Have swags of spare sets of tuners if you want one or two.
Wow Gav, she's turned out to be a stunner. Love the colour mate.
Thanks @Rob!
cheers,
Gav.
thats come up a treat Gav, very nice looking Mozzy, can't wait to hear those P90s
Thanks Wokks. It's been a bit of a struggle this one, and it doesn't look quite as nice up close ;) but I'm glad it's finally getting there. I really want to hear the pups too! Very soon I hope.
cheers,
Gav.
Noice Cricket bat you got there Gav :p
Great to see you finding workarounds for those pesky gremlins, she has come up looking great.
Yeah I'd be up for that ;). Thanks DB. For a cricket bat she's looking pretty good.
cheers,
Gav.
Totally agree Woks. On the radio this morning they were saying how Warne is blaming everything on anybody but himself. All we ask is that he admits that he is a big jerk and D@#kHead. May have been a good bowler in the past but his time in the spotlight has also passed him by.
