Hi Dave, kit looks great is that a TL-1TB ?

If you want the darkest blue Lady Teal then don't mix any white into the base coat. Might be worth trying it with no white mix on a piece of scrap wood. It is easier to make the colour darker but can't really make it lighter in colour !

Thanks Wokkaboy - yes, it's a sort of stylized hawk-beak. I drew it with some sophisticated drafting tools - a cat food can for the top curve, and a nickle coin for the hook. Today I cut. Tomorrow I sand. The next day I sand.

I cut the headstock with a coping saw (adventure - not too bad), and ended up with this (please excuse crappy phone photos):

I sanded it a lot, using a broomstick with 180, then 220 wrapped around it for the inside of the 'hook'. When I was feeling bold I put the first coat of Wudtone Antique Yellow on it, and magically the grain rose up, and the wood gained this sort of golden depth to it:

Next, the body. Mucho sanding, including a round sanding block made out of a toilet paper roll stuffed with newspaper to handle the curves on the bout. It seemed ready, so I put on the first coat of Wudtone Lady Teal (could have a better name, I think):

There are marks that I couldn't see in good light, but show up with the stain - maybe a rookie mistake that I should have sanded more. Also, the color looks more green than blue (catalog photo below), but that will probably change with additional coats. The jury is still out on the back and sides: I go back and forth between the top color, and the neck color.
Anyway, now it's time to quote Tom Petty - the waiting is the hardest part.

Great dunny roll sanding solution!
A tip with sanding: close your eyes and run your hand over - if you can feel it, stain or paint will highlight it
