Though I can't convince myself that a racing stripe in the answer, I do agree with @stan and others that the solid colour needs something. I am considering adding hot rod flames in a shade just lighter than the rest of the body. Here's my concept drawings:

I personally find flames a bit tacky but different strokes hey. I understnad the hot rod thing though!
What about a white geometric or something? To contrast the blue?
Gav, I see where your coming from with the flame idea. A shade lighter would keep it quite subtle but interesting enough to the eye as a visual feature.
