Gav,
just old faithful feast and watson, mind you it was my special mix.
nick, cheers.
first pic is the first stain coat rubbed back, the second pic is my now lighter and much better final base coat. Need to spray a few clear coats to seal and protect before I start the burst.
not too worried about the imperfections on the outer edges etc as the darker burst colours or pick guard will cover them.

Here is a little of the past days work.
the mahogany is definitely a bit different to the body.
A couple of light clear coats to seal it on Boxing Day I think.

That head stock looks great mate. The figure under the blue is sweet.

A few light clear coats to protect it this morning. The temps got high quickly, so had to stop spraying. Maybe glue it up tomorrow.

Rule # 1 when gluing in a set neck - like spray painting, don't glue when it's 34deg outside as your working time with glue is reduced.
Rule # 2 when gluing in a set neck - keep an eye on your joint when mopping up the excess glue because if it moves on a warm day you have minimum time to fix it before the glue starts curing.
Worked out both of these just now, glue started curing when I had to push the neck in on one side about 15mm which was a bit more difficult than it should have been. Hopefully the joint still has decent strength, some of the glue was still runny. I have a few gaps that I will fill with some glue and dust later I think.
I really have to just step out of the shed some days and let the finish or glue dry. I just want to motor on........

nice progress Kane. Some days you just cant get enough done, eh!

You are right Stan.
some days though you do too much. Today I couldn't help myself, scraping the binding I was then felt a bit of a edge stocking out on the neck join and the very last of the binding. So I started sanding it flatter so it wouldn't be noticed. Rubbed a little area of the neck and body so it was flush. In doing so I have rubbed some of the prooftint stain away along with a few light coats of clear.
Need help now however, I can't get the repaired area blended nice. Darker rings around the blend zone and lighter patch area. Done it a few times now and just had to walk away.
Any feast and watson patch up experts out there?

FW seems to build up colour with repeated applications.
It's going to be tricky to blend in a touch up.
would a fine paint brush help perhaps?

Well the blend didn't turn out too bad. Have applied some more clear coats to make sure if I stuff up the burst at least I can sand back a bit.
Here is my practice for today. Will try the actual guitar on Tuesday morning when the temps are more suitable for spraying here in WA.

Some really nice test runs on the 'burst there, Kane!
