I've just found out that someone has been trying to use my phone number, without my knowledge, to gain access to my bank account details so that they can have access to my money, so my bank (NAB) has seen fit to put a block on my bank account so that no one can draw out any money, basically this means I have no access to my money until the NAB issues me with a new bankcard, which could take up to a fortnight, so that means I can't buy anything now, not even food so I can eat, see the system really lets you down when you least want it to.

I had a block put on my bank account, they thought some dodgy bizz was going on, i just had to ring the bank, they made sure it was me, and it was right to go in 1hour after a change of password, didnt have to get a new card etc.

bummer Doc that is terrible news, that really sucks when people try to rip innocent people off.

Surely you have a credit card for food or can a mate lend you some cash ?

Yep, I've got a Visa Debit card, it's my only one and it's linked to the very account that's been blocked, those people who try to rip innocent people off are just morally bankrupt people who are selfishly trying to get rich quick.


I'm just going to have to put up with it till I get issued a new NAB Visa Debit card.


I've sent an email to my mate who I've been helping with his guitar rig recently, so hopefully he'll know my situation.

As a little experiment, I tried doing a small money transfer into my Visa account from my main account just to see if my bank account really had been blocked, and guess what?, I was able to do the transfer, so, I really don't know what's going on, I tried checking the number that the NAB security person used to contact me online using a website called shouldianswer.net, it told me that the number was from an NAB Telemarketer.

Do you have Bendigo Bank in Darwinia yet Doc?
If so, I would go and talk to them. Nothing is ever a problem and they will never put a freeze on your account that you wont be able to make go away through one simple phone call..
And you wont be talking to some one in Mumbai or Singapore, all their help desk folk are here in Oz.
We do all our banking with Bendigo, they are the Biz!
With my debit/eftpos/hole in the wall card they told me to hit credit when using it for eftpos so I wont have to pay a fee.
How many banks would tell you that??!

I tried to do the Realtone Music order I was planning to do and everything was going well up to when I was about to make the transaction, then I got a message saying the transaction couldn't be completed, so it definitely looks like my bank account has been blocked and I no longer have access to my money, will have to get things sorted out with the bank tomorrow.

Right about now is where I'd feel like using some colourful language, but as this forum is family oriented I will have to restrain myself.

yeah Doc that sucks.

Surely the bank can sort you out with a temporary solution while they get your new card out which as you say could be 2 weeks away.

If NAB say you will have to wait for the new card I'd go to Bendigo as DB suggested and close your NAB account !

Consumers get jerked around too much by banks and they don't understand the inconvenience

And another great thing about Bendigo Bank is if you are on a pension/ Austudy etc, they dont hold your money for 48 hours before putting it in your account..
Nor do they fund coal seam gas exploration/ development or any other hideous planet screwing industries..
I have been in our local branch maybe five times in the past 12 months and the staff always remember my name.
Now that is customer service..
