Sounds nice Doc, very nice cleans indeed. I think your cat fell asleep reading through your thread... (joke, it's long, not boring)
Hahahaha....I think the cat fell asleep because it was getting tired of all the silly mistakes I was making while building the guitar, the cat thinks it knows everything, that's why it tries to be the centre of attention, and if it doesn't get any attention it simply decides to fall asleep on my workbench.....lol.
Guitar sounds nice, Doc. Looking good too.
You going to order any gold screws for the scratchplate and pickup fittings so that as much of the hardware is gold as possible?
By the way, we've interviewed the cat and there will be a two-page spread appearing shortly on all your undocumented building mistakes. ;)
Yep, and I've already done so, I ordered about 30 new Gold Fender scratchplate screws from Stewmac, would have ordered them from Realtone Music but they didn't have any in stock, I'm going to be ordering the new Gold SuperVee Bladerunner bridge in about a couple more fortnight's time, in the meantime the hardware I've fitted to the guitar will do so I can play it while waiting for the new bits to arrive, I've ordered some new parts for the LP Studio from Stewmac and I bought a set of Kluson-style locking tuners for it on the Stratosphere website, they should be turning up in the post soon.
Cool. Should look great when all the parts are there.
Hahahaha....I'm sooooo going to be embarassed when all the guitar-building skeletons are brought out from the closet,...oh the humanity....lol....just kidding.
*Thinks...."That's the last time I get one of my feline guitar-building advisors to write a 100-page critique on my guitar building techniques, it was unfairly biased".*
Today's agenda is going to be very simple, drink some coffee to wake myself up and maybe have something to eat too, that might be a little too simple for me though....haha.
I like how it sounds dirty. Can easily pump out some numbers sounding like that... Clean is sweet too.
Sounds good Doc.
Cheers mate.
I'm going to see if I can knock together another demo for you guys, but this time it'll be with drums, a bass guitar, and etc, I'll see if I can do it Dub Reggae style.
As it just so happens, I've got my Squire P-Bass here at home with me so I can use it to record the bassline.
Update:
After having some trouble with my main DAW PC, I've just managed to do another quick demo of the Gold Strat, this time it's being played through my DIY Gypsy Eyes Fuzz pedal, will post a link to it shortly when it's ready, stay tuned.
And here it is, half of it has been recorded dry while the other half has had some stereo delay applied to it:

Well, that's pretty much a square wave fuzz sound there, Doc! It's definitely not a pedal that still lets the real tone of the guitar through.
Yes. I had a Colorsound Supa Tonebender like this as my first ever pedal. I bought in sometime around 1977:

A development of those early Tonebenders but still just a few basic components on a PCB.
I thought it sounded horrible, but it was half the price of my mate's MXR distortion pedal and I couldn't afford to get anything more expensive at the time (I was 16). It was also my first purchase from Andertons, who were just a small but decent music shop in those days.
Oh cool, apparently Jeff Beck used one of those at one point in his career, they're regarded as quite collectable nowadays, I'm seriously thinking of doing a build project thread on one of those soon, would be cool to get some Jeff Beck tones with it and my Gold Strat.
The circuit of the Supa Tonebender is a lot like the original 4-Transistor Big Muff, except there's only one transistor stage with the back-to-back clipper diodes.
Just in case any of you may be interested, here's a pic of the recording rig setup which I used to record the demos I uploaded:

Just found my DIY Tonebender Mk I Fuzz pedal and tried it out with my Gold Strat, it sounded brutal, will post a demo soon.
Update:
Just so you guys know, I'm about to post a link to a new demo recording of my DIY Tonebender Mk I pedal in the DIY pedals forum section.
Thats was a pretty beefy sound with a start doc
Update:
Had to remove the Gold Sperzel Tuners I had installed on the headstock because they weren't performing as well as I'd hoped they would, that's a bit of a shame cause they were virtually brand-new, they were exhibiting a bit too much backlash making it hard for me to tune each string accurately to pitch, surprising cause they are advertised as being the best tuners that money can buy on the Sperzel website, I replaced them with the set of Gold Grover Rotomatics I was using previously on the original neck, so now, because I don't have any spare sets of strings, and no money to buy more, I'll have to wait till next fortnight to re-string the guitar to be able to record any more demos.
That's weird. I had a set fitted to one guitar and they were fine. Were they real Sperzels or a copy? Of could they be copies sold as Sperzels?
Yep, they are a full set of genuine USA made Sperzel Locking Tuners, I'm thinking that their quality control may have slipped a bit, or maybe I was just unlucky enough to get a dud set, the tuners do turn smoothly, it's just that they all exhibit about 1/8th of a turn of backlash, from reading what they said on their website, these Sperzel tuners are supposed to have minimal end-play, backlash, and tuner-shaft wobble, I don't think it's the nut that's causing the trouble cause it seems to have been cut correctly, all the strings ring-out with no sitar-buzzing, and the 1st fret action seems all good too, it's definitely the tuners that are at fault, unfortunately it's been a bit too long for me to get them replaced under warranty.
I know that they are genuine USA Sperzels since they have "USA" stamped on them, besides, they look too genuine to be fakes.
I've got a set of new 3-A-Side Kluson Revolution Locking Tuners installed on my LP Studio guitar that I recently bought, at the moment they are exhibiting practically no noticeable backlash in comparison to the Sperzels, and they seem to be doing a bit better job in keeping the LP Studio in tune.
Have you tried tightening the screws on the end of the tuner buttons? I normally tighten them until it takes a reasonable bit of effort to turn them. It does help keep the tuner key in place and can reduce some backlash as it helps pull the worm gear against the rotary gear.
Yep, tried that, I found that it didn't help to reduce the backlash, all it did was make the guitar harder to tune up to pitch, I think when they made my set of Sperzel tuners the manufacturing tolerances was a bit off so that the gears didn't mesh tightly enough with the worm-gear, I might try buying a new set later on this year and see if I get better performing ones, in the meantime I'll have to make do with the Grover Rotomatics, just wish the Grovers didn't have a tendency to break certain strings when tuning up to pitch (the high E-string is the one most prone to breaking).
Worth dropping an email to Sperzel and explain that you''d bought them some time ago and had only just got round to fitting them due to delayed guitar construction. They might know of a problematic batch and offer to replace them.
Sounds like it's worth a try, I'll wait till tomorrow to email them then, and I'll see what they do in response, cheers mate, my LP Studio guitar is still playable so I can still record a good demo of my new Boss RE20 Space Echo pedal, but that'll have to wait till the morning.
Update:
Just noticed something interesting about the Gold Paint I used on the body of my Gold Strat, over the last couple of weeks since I put the guitar together, I've noticed that the Gold Paint has developed a copper-ish patina to it even though I distinctly remember spraying it with a few coats of clearcoat, I may keep it like it is cause it looks a bit reliced.
I don't think you have much choice unless you want another 200 pages of build.
Hey Doc, 9 days without an update???
RU OK mate?
Cheers, Waz
Hahahaha, well that's fair enough mate, my excuse is that some unknown person sabotaged my NBN internet connection last Monday, and I couldn't get online, had to wait till this morning for an NBN Co. Tech to come and fix it for me, I managed to take a pic of the damaged Fibre Optic cable before it got fixed, here's the pic so you can see for yourself, I was without an internet connection from last Monday afternoon till this morning when it got fixed:
Attachment 19703
As you can see in the pic, some unknown person pulled the Fibre Optic cable out of the NBN Co. Box that's next to my front door, so there was no way to get online.
And here's a pic of the Fibre Optic cable after the NBN Co. Tech fixed it, I just literally took this pic half a minute ago:

Why would someone do such a thing? Glad you are back online ;)
