Hey DrNomis, give me some time with this, the shipment arrived on Friday and we have a tonne of backorders and custom orders to sort through.
Flick me an email if you don't hear anything by Wednesday.
Hey, this thread is 121 pages!! Is this the longest thread on the Forum?
Hi Doc, trying to make a living solely out of the music industry is very, very tough and as a result not many people make enough to get by.
I'm a little bit older than you but remember when at about 17 or 18 going through similar things and being so obsessed about everything that it tended to dampen the fun factor which is really important because if you are no longer enjoying what you do the outcome is even poorer results, and this rings true for most things in life. These days I haven't played seriously for ages and just noodle around a bit to amuse myself but the best part is that because I am under no pressure things come to me a lot easier than they did before. Also, there are times when you may not be in the 'zone' and that is when nothing seems to be going right. That is a signal to switch off and come back later or another day when you are in a better headspace.
It is fun reading all your threads and posts as you are talented and clearly a very passionate and caring person. As a community here at PBG you have so many followers and supporters who want to see you succeed and hope this is just a point in time where you need to pause and take a break so that you can return refreshed and ready to rip into things again.
Understand your frustration with the Ash body Gold Strat project as I reckon each and every one of us on this forum at some stage has experienced similar setbacks and we are all here to help you get back on the horse so to speak.
If I lived in Darwin I would offer to come around and help you finish it off but sadly I am about 4 hours flying time away. Rather than bin the body I would be willing to finish it off for you if it was posted to me as originally it looked sensational and truly believe you need to show off the grain rather than hide it under a solid metallic colour.
We are all here to help you in any way we can.
Cheers, Waz
Hey cheers for that Waz, much appreciated, I received a pm from one of the other Forum members who offered some words of encouragement, he's one of our newest members, anyway, I think I might have had a relapse of Depression over the last few days, I got diagnosed with Minor Depression a few years ago and got put on some medication, after I came off the medication, I thought I was right as rain, it's looking like I may need to go see the people at the NT Mental Health Services this coming fortnight, and see if they can sort me out.
I have to admit that I enjoy reading other Forum member's posts too, your posts are always interesting to read, we have a huge number of very talented people who make up the Pitbull Guitars community, I feel like I truly belong in this community.
Cheers Doc. I could sense you were a bit down and in need of some genuine encouragement and hope those dark clouds hanging around clear off real soon.
Doc, this epic thread needs an epic golden triumphant ending, the forum is behind you... the crowd is hushed....even the seagulls are intently watching as Doc comes up to the crease.... we all know you are going to knock it for six.
I'm pretty sure all your paint problems are due to having applied Dingotone first and then sanded back down and sprayed. A lot of spray paint formulas don't react well with residual oil or wax, and its very hard to get that out of the wood once it's in there.
A new body should see you going again to finish the gold guitar, whilst your existing body can be stripped back and re-used using Dingotone.
Really hope your trip to the Docs proves fruitful and gets you back feeling OK again. It's a lot easier to see things clearly when you aren't standing in a hole.
Cheers mate, I'm convinced that the issues with the paint is due to the dingotone, what convinced me was that the HotRod Strat body never had any dingotone applied to it, and I had no issues with the paint I used on it.

Hey Doc, if you do another solid paint job I highly recommend this stuff:

$9.90 at the green shed and dried very nice!
I used these on my Star Wars ST jr and i'm super happy with the application and drying.
I started with 3-4 coats of primer, sanded flat and primer again and no more grain.
Then only added a couple coats of coloured paints and looks awesome.
I'm trying out adding a clear acrylic coat on top, and so far looks all happy.
Colour range is very nice too.
Geez, I bought some Flat Black to repaint a bed head and base (as there was a bit of surface rust developing) at my local green shed for $11.95 per can and they had exactly the same colour range as Fred's plus more. Gotta wonder why I am paying an extra $2 per can from the same supplier?
Just so you guys know, I'm in a much better frame of mind than I was the last few days, I'm still going to go see the Doctors at the NT Mental Health Services this coming fortnight though, been thinking about what I could do with the Gold Strat body after I replace it with a new one, and I'm thinking of seeing if I can fix the dent in the body, so I can use it to build a second Strat (maybe make it into a Hank Marvin Strat and paint it red perhaps since I've been getting back into Hank Marvin and the Shadows), might see if I can get the right Red colour in those cans of Rust-Oleum paint and give those cans of Rust-Oleum a go.
Great to hear you're in a better place - no one likes to see a mate struggling. Ultra worst case is drop Wokka a line and go for a Strat clock :).
Cheers mate, yeah I don't like to see a mate struggling either, lol.
I'm currently doing a bit of work on my Squire P-Bass, basically (pun intended...lol), I'm swapping out the bridge that was installed on it for the one that was on my Yamaha ERB-300 Bass (the bridge on the ERB-300 is a nice Gotoh), just had to glue some splinters of wood in some holes so that the mounting screws would be tighter.
I think that most of the forum members would agree with me that your mateship and continual support on this forum, for us, has been invaluable Doc. You have encouraged me when I have had major set backs in my builds and have inspired me to build pedals (and an amp someday). I can see that you have set exceedingly high goals for yourself and your pursuit of them is admirable, I just thought I should highlight some of your qualities that you may not get told sometimes. Building guitars is not easy, and when you put the better part of a year and finances into it it can be soul destroying if things go wrong. I've been there, and I've seen others go to that place as well. It's a rare thing though, after that time, when it's time to pick it back up and finish that build, I've seen some amazing builds come out of it. Take some time Doc, I'd love to see you finish this epic build thread
Andy
take the time and effort to get yourself right Doc, we'll be here waiting
Hey cheers for that Andy, though you and I have never met in person, I regard you as a great mate, hope you don't mind me saying that, I've read a few of your threads and found them inspiring too, your guitar builds have impressed me a lot with the standard of finishing on them, when you get round to building an amp, feel free to ask me any questions you like and I will answer them to the best of my ability, I agree, sometimes I do tend to set very high goals for myself, maybe subconsciously I'm trying to prove something to myself, I don't really know, but when I do achieve those goals I tend to feel good about myself, and yes, when I don't achieve the goals I've set for myself it does tend to feel a bit soul destroying, I think I need to learn how to deal with setbacks better, so, maybe that can be my life's mission, hopefully I'll get this project finished with the new Strat body, meanwhile there are a few other things I can work on.
The good news is that I managed to get my white Ibanez RG350DXZ guitar back into a playable/giggable state, with a new set of strings, it seems to be holding it's tuning a bit better now, so at least I have one guitar that I can play, I also did some other maintenence work on it to get the trem-system working better.
The place where I live is really not a great neighborhood to live in at all, so one thing I've really got to do at some stage is get myself moved to a better neighborhood, a lot of bad stuff happens where I live, it's basically a set of NT Government Housing blocks, some of the people living in some of the houses aren't really nice people, and there's been a couple people actually getting killed where I live, one person committed suicide (supposedly) by jumping over the balcony-railing on the top floor, another person got knifed and died in a pool of blood after making it back into the carpark, where they collapsed on the concrete footpath about ten metres from where my mailbox is, one other person got knifed when they went outside to ask a group of Aboriginal people to be quiet, I've also had some Aboriginal people have fights right outside my kitchen window, so you see, where I live is having a negative effect on my mental health and wellbeing.
Just thought I would let you guys know that, maybe that has been a contributing factor, I don't really know, it's possible though, anyway, it's one more item on my "to do" list.
Good insight Doc, I don't know whats thats like, but it sounds pretty horrible. I could't live in the NT just for the sheer heat. If you can make that move to Cairns things may be a bit better.
Hi Doc no way I would put up with those living conditions, time for a move mate
i think you should bump moving to the top of your to do list...
Hey Doc just caught up on this thread. I hope your feeling better in yourself. It sounds like you have figured out some top priorities that need to be addressed. Step away from the music for a bit, it will always be waiting for you when your ready. Take care for now

If you have kept a log of events around that have happened around you, and have the corresponding police report numbers [not hard to get]... then get a mental health report , there would be pretty thin grounds for you NOT to be transferred.... BUT... To where?
It might be even worse at your new abode, just saying.
The fact that you are a sole occupant, puts you way down the priority scale for a transfer.....I know how this crap works.
If you were to get a transfer, it would be to another single unit affair, with probably other single units around you, most of these would be housed by the Mentally ill, or those either alcohol or drug dependent.
The fact that you are in the NT leaves you with the sad fact that you are surrounded by Kooris, who can't even get on with each other when sober, let alone alcohol or drug effected [hence the constant fighting] let alone a lone white fella.
Same stuff happens in W.A and in Sydney [Redfern - thankfully, no way as bad as you have it ATM].... personal experience, so I can relate to Dr Nomis predicament.
It's not racist, if you live among it and you tell it how it is, it's those that don't live among it in their safe little politically correct only white suburbs , that call it racism ....swap shoes for a month, then see if you still feel the same.
It's the way government try to hide the problem of what otherwise would be homelessness for the above, to the decrement of of those not suffering those ills.
That's sounding pretty traumatic Dr_No - I can understand the need to move and also the contribution that it may be having to an already difficult situation. Thinking of you mate and hope it gets sorted shortly.
Cheers mate, I'm definitely feeling a lot better today, I decided to stop working on the Gold Strat and do some work on getting the HotRod Strat finished, it actually cheered me up a lot because I found that the Hot Rod Strat didn't actually need much work done to get it finished, I'm looking at seeing if I can get it up and running this fortnight, I'm currently making a 2mm thick piece of Rosewood that will be glued to the neck just under the Locking Nut.
Nasty situation indeed, and so hard to get out of. Here's hoping that your move proceeds with the minimum of fuss, and that you have no hassles finishing off the Hot Rod Strat.
Cheers mate, it took me two years and six months of waiting to get into the flat I'm living in, last time I checked the waiting time was something like four years, the Housing situation in Darwin has gotten really ridiculous, there's lots of itinerants living on the streets, and at one stage to buy your own house in Darwin, it costed 400,000.
Nobody building houses, or are their restrictions placed on the numbers built? Limitations on where you can build? Or is it just too many people converging on the same area at the same time?
We've got a large housing 'shortage' in the UK. Plenty of houses, lots empty, but most are in the north and everyone wants to move south and live around London. Commuting in from up to 100 miles/160km is fairly common. So they are slowly building more houses down south - but it's already relatively crowded and with ageing infrastructure and narrow roads - so things just get even more clogged-up. Around 20,000 new houses being build within a few miles radius of where I live over the next couple of years, and that's a lot of extra traffic. At some point I'm going to have to move somewhere quieter because it's just becoming unbearable. There's no government plans or incentives for people to develop businesses in the northern parts of the country. So people move south, which reduces the economy up north, which then results in worse services, shops that have to shut, less jobs etc. and it becomes a vicious circle as people then want to move out.
I think it's probably a case of the Real Estate agents getting a bit greedy (i.e. profits), and wanting sell to the big spenders, and maybe something to do with the Darwin City Council, Darwin's hospital needs funding, so what do the Darwin City Council do?, they spend money on a great big olympic-sized swimming pool instead.
Update:
Just so you guys know, I'm shelving my Gold Strat project for the time-being so that i can concentrate on other things, and also so I can take my mind off it for a break, don't worry, I'm not abandoning this project completely, just taking some time-out from it.
Hey Doc good idea, it will give you some space and time to re-group on this one. I have numerous 'parked' projects that I've just had to walk away from for a bit, for various reasons, waiting for the flash of inspiration to pick them up again
Hey Doc, totally agree with Ponch and we will all be patiently waiting to see you back in action with it at some stage down the track.
Cheers Waz and Ponch, when I do get back into working on this project I will make sure I post regular updates for you, cause I know you guys like reading them.
See, I think I'm learning how to control my inner OCD-ness about the projects I work on...hahaha.
Onward and upwards.
Cheers mate and don't forget to make sure you enjoy what you are doing. It takes less effort that way.
Don't forget that consigning displeasing bodies to a fiery pit can be almost as much fun. Mwahahahahaha!
