Is there to be a memorial service?

Bereft of power, it routs no more. This is an ex-Dremel.
It's probably pining for the fjords.
E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This dremel is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the base 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is motor coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-DREMEL!!
Apologies to Monty Python and the assembled forum <shuffles off into the corner to think about what he's just done, Igor shakes head and wrings hands (His own for a change)>
"I've got a slug."
"Does it route?"
"Umm, not really no."
"Well it's hardly a replacement is it?"
"It's not my fault I never wanted to do this job.. no, I always wanted to be a Lumberjack"......
hahaha, I love this forum.
If people can still recite Monty Python, then there is still hope for the world.
Just not for the Dremel.
My old man used to say to me," money doesn't buy you apiness son" aye. We used to get up out o shoe box an lik road clean wit tongue.
Some good progress yesterday night and tonight. Electronics should be all good based on testing with multimeter.
Hopefully I should be able to put it together by the weekend!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fad8ef03cb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7d1a35d78a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...093ad1b546.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...70f37280f5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e5365faaba.jpg

Does anyone remember the Monty Python 3 sided LP title matching tie and handerkerchief? It featured the famous Aussie Bruce sketch as well as the Cheese shop. Absolutely hilarious.

I always thought the Aussie Bruce sketch was a documentary. ;)
Well no Monty Python for me tonight, but instead I did some good work and I think I'm done with assembly.
All pickup and switches sound like they're working which is great!
I've set it up with the kit strings and left it tuned. Tomorrow I'll look at setting it up as action is mega high.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8dbfe5b5f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c641c6d829.jpg

Looks great. You really need a headstock logo though.
Don't know about the headstock logo...
I played with bits of stickers and words, but I think I like it without a logo... it's meant to be simple with no frills in my mind: visible wood grain, metal and black & white, no frills... a working bass
I initially wanted a matt finish but the TO came out gloss and if I sand the top the deep grain stays glossy so looks weird.

cheers, Mark
Well that will save any confusion.
Hot enough in 'ere to boil a monkey's bum!
Took the new bass to the band rehearsal today and it sounds very different from the IB5!
Still have to lower the nut, replace the chinese strings by a good set, and then set up intonation and action properly, but it played pretty well on the hire Fender Rumble [emoji3]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...605c358a39.jpg

Nice looking axe you got there Fred
How did it sound Fred and which was your favourite PUP combination?
Sounded great!
The J pups tend to have a bit of noise if you don't have them both on, but it can mostly be filtered out.
I think I kept the P pup on all the time as I just loved it. I had the bridge J by itself at one point but it wasn't quite the right sound for rock. Was missing some depth.
The neck J sounds very deep. I guess it's a lot closer to the neck than it usually is since the p pup took its normal place, but very nice.
I was missing some if the raw 'power' from the humbuckers in the IB5, but with the neck J and the P I was getting a pretty deep sound.
And now that I have a second bass operational I'm going to be able to swap the IB5 chinese pup for the set of custom George Benson I ordered month ago. I'm very keen to hear how these guys sound!

Hi Fred, possibly your PUP options might be in parallel as that tends to give that thinner sound when 2 or more are selected. I am in the middle of wiring up a push/pull mod on my J Bass to get the pair in series, same as what Ozzie did on his most recent J Bass, as that should beef up the sound as well as provide a bit more output too.
Yep the 3x pups are in parrallel, with an on / off for each to take the pup and pot out of the circuit.
Humm... you're getting me thinking about alternative wiring now!

Let's call it finished now.
I've been playing it for a few weeks now and tinkering with the set up for as long.
Pretty happy with it, sound is very snappy with quite a few options with the 3x pups.
I know get to use the tone knob!
But man this thing is heavy compared to my IB5... a lot more hard work to play standing up for 4 hours!
Anyways, photos below.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...198a0217c1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a1ce59104b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...421489e308.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e191047d02.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b9dde8ce50.jpg

That is awesome Fred, i love the grain patterning and the almost oily/inky look to it. Wonderful stuff!
Looks seriously heavy duty! Heavy being the operative word.
