I could not see using the supplied trussrod cover either. I made some out of Maple. Broke one or two drilling. Painted one, natural finished another. Finally bought one made of rosewood on eBay for around $2.Quote:

Dusenberg guitars normally sound great, so though I've never heard a bass, it's not going to be bad. I'd search for videos of Dusenberg basses on YouTube. Though the bass construction will make a difference, it will give you a decent idea of the general pickup sound.

Working on it. We've done all the normal stuff. We're not in a zone that normally floods, but this one looks like it could bring a massive storm surge, so I'll be using the remaining hours doing what I can to keep water out. We expect power to be out for a week or so after. We have lots of propane and charcoal, but I may have to delay a bit on getting my sound samples up. Hard to do without power ;-) Thanks for asking.

gl with the windy thing out there.. we have a real simple solution to that much water over here.. we turn the pumps up a notch.. we kinda have to though.. i'm about 6m below sea level
gonna be a tough choice... doozy's or dimarzio's.. or maybe one of both.. the doozy's kinda fit the style of the thing.. but on the other hand the dimarzio's are a touch of the unexpected.. and they are coil splittable n stuff for even more diversity in sounds... oh well there's time to ponder while i save up for them..
I've heard good things about the DiM's, and they have been around a long time. That said I suspect the Dusenbergs are also splitable.

The Duesenbergs are 4 conductor as well. Can't find them on their web site so they might have stopped making them - so you may need to be quick. They are fitted to their Starplayer Bass, which is a semi-acoustic bass (of sorts), so not too dissimilar to the EB4.

The pumps will be running full blast. We've had a lot of Dutch engineers look at out problem. Unfortunately it's a bit different than yours. Our ground is porous, so when we get surge, it just percolates up through the ground. That's why my joke to friends in other areas is that the reason houses don't have basements here is because they attract fish.

Good luck, Fender3x. I really hope it drops in force or does a major diversion. I've got a friend in Sandford, a bit north of Orlando. A bit more inland than you probably are and he's got a friend who's lived through 70 years of Florida hurricanes and is saying not to worry, but then again, he probably hasn't seen one as violent as this. Wind energy squares with speed, so a 140mph wind is 50% stronger than a 120mph wind.
Hey mate, welcome to the forum. I too am a novice and you will find the people on this site are very helpful. Good luck with your build. I found that after I screwed up the start of my LP build I used a 0000 steel wool to rub most of my mistakes off. Being a very fine wool it didn't take any of the veneer off and it did the trick. Anyhoo, good luck and welcome.
We're looking at winds of 150 and storm surge of up to 15 feet. No one had seen one like this for a while.
They are far enough in and not to worry about surge where he is so if his house has protection up to code he'll be fine. The wind is bad but the water is worse.
I think we'll be ok for the storm, and am more worried about the arftermath. A storm that goes South to North through most of the state will overwhelm services. We may not have power for a week or more.

Just listened to the clip Simon posted. Those Dusenbergs sound great. (My clips won't have quite as good a bassist...).
The comment in German says he's using several amp models. Not sure whether that's true.
I like that sound, particularly on its own, bit if it were me, I'd want to be able to split to get more high end. They're a tad dark, and more highs might sit better in a mix. Definitely have the look though!

You could always try 1Meg pots instead of 500k. Might give you enough highs without splitting - but it also depends on your amp and its tone control setup.
Yes, Irma looks to be heading for the western side of Florida, and you never know, may just head on out into the gulf without the worst of it hitting Florida at all. But you can never tell. Really hope you all get away with minimal damage.
The farther west the better for us. We're already getting big gusts, small tornados and power outages... It's a big enough storm that we'll get some. Hoping it's not too bad. Sad thing is that it is going to ruin someone's day...

Looked at a couple of YouTube videos. They are obviously designed for metal guitarists and to sound like active pickups. They can do clean, though on a guitar it sounds a bit characterless to me (web browsing seems to agree) and are built for distortion. They'd certainly have a lot more output than your current pickups, so with a semi-hollow bass, you might get feedback sooner than with the existing pickups. But more web browsing shows that they have been fitted to bases with reportedly good results. Again 'hi-fi' type response and very detailed - rather Rickenbacker-like. Which may not suit the innate quality a semi-hollow bass.
They aren't overly wide, so measure across your bass stings at the neck and bridge positions and see how that compares with the pickup dimensions. There is a 7-string version, so that would be an option if the 6-string versions seem rather narrow and I'm sure you could enlarge the pickup cavities if necessary.
The Lace website doesn't seem to give the dimensions of the normal Alumitones, just the weird pickup and 7+ string guitar sizes. Great going Lace!.
