Maybe gold Tele knobs??
I like the style of knob, but I'm not quite so keen on their colour. Maybe the amber version rather than straight gold? But as ILR said, gold Tele style knobs would work as well.
amazing standard of entries this month :D
What a great variety of instruments! I haven't checked things out in a while as I've been doing household stuff like painting and gardening (to earn more credits so I can get back to guitar building!!), so it's very cool to come back and see these amazing guitars. Great job everyone!
Here is my entry for the guitar of the month competition
TLA-1 kit build, ash body given a few coats of sanding sealer and then some shoe polish to bring out the grain, before sealing with wipe on poly
Came out a lot better than expected and I think the images don’t do it justice
also made a build diary (still editing the video) for anyone who may be interesdted

love that headstock. Your build diary was awesome. For my next one I might do a diary like yours - I've watched it a few times so far.
depicted minds hopefuly i make all the mistakes so you dont have to!
Heads up - less than 24 hours until closin' time on this month's comp (last one for the year - the next one closes end of Dec, so is awarded in Jan 2017 - scary 'eh?).
If you've got something ready, get it in soon!
Entries now closèd. I'll get the axes to judge out to the adjudicators and we'll get back soon!
Watch this space...
I had my brother-in-law record a quick clip of him playing our ES-1TL. Not trying to influence judging, but I thought you all would like to hear what she sounds like.

Sounds great MrMayhem. it really looks the biz too!
+1 from me too.
Corker of a month. Good luck all!
OMG have you created that sound with those Darkstar from Entwistle? I also have an LP with those pickups and never could make it sounds like this, this guitar sounds brilliant like the sun in the summer, it's amazing the sound you've created. I'm not trying to affect the jury decision but it's really hard to make these pickups sounds this way, they have a very dark sound, so they are named "Darkstar" because they are really really dark, this guitar is an artwork just for the sound you have created with her. And also the look is pretty cool.
Wow.
Firstly thankyou. Thats very humbling 😁
Secondly... what wiring do you have? This guitar has the jp classic wiring... so i have 4 push pulls giving me 21 variations in tone... primarily the ability to coil split both has been really useful.
The biggest thing i was happy about was the sound. This thing has zero hum, huge sustain and massive tone transferrance. On rhythm i ran the neck out of phase and the bridge split. For lead i ran the pickups coil split to get as close to a coil tap single as possible... but i have to also credit the gsp with some of this as well.
I recorded this on a digitech gsp1101 effects unit. Rhythm was on preset 1 and lead on preset 4. Both had a little added compression with the lead a shade more echo which helped with the sustain a bit.
Ultimately the luck was on my side with the kit fitting as well as it did. Intonation is great on it and action is awesome... but yeah im really happy with the sound. Really happy with my wiring.
I just wish i could play better! Im learning to solo now and one day id love to jam with some brissy folk and geek out on guitars.
Thankyou so much for your comments!
So to the results - and thanks to the judges - it's a hard month this month with three guitars scoring a 10/10 with at least one judge and (2 x 9.5's). Just goes to show how close things are!
Comments first in submission order:
MrMayhem75’s ES-1TL –
Love it. Great tribute guitar. Dig the colour and the shape (see what I did there?). Looks to be well put together.
Nice colour and well finished. Extra points for wrap around bridge and Foo Fighters tributes on headstock and near neck heel on the back.
Awesome colour and finish. Only slight fault for me was the finish on the headstock, very slight orange peel, minor.
Beautiful colour. great finish.
Loved this build start to finish. That blue is stunning. Some nice custom touches too.
Thigg88’s TLA-1R –
Simple, classy blackguard TL-1
Super clean and simple, understated
Understated elegance. Extra points for string through upgraded 6 saddle bridge plus perfect ferrule alignment on the back. Would love to add this guitar to my collection.
Super classy looking guitar. I really like the elegance of the all black hardware and the ever so slightly white body. Simple, straight forward, two thumbs up.
Digging the black hardware on the natural finish – pops really well and gives a nice edge.
Urho’s Behemoth –
That colour, man, what a trip. So glad someone's finally been brave enough to do one of these. Great effort.
What a hectic axe – so much going on from the fretboard to the amount of strings. Beast!
First time I have seen one of these built. Well finished and nice colour choice. Looks like an aftermarket bridge on the Bass however there is a metallic circular bit showing under the leading edge that is probably there for earthing purposes. Slight deduction in points for no headstock logos nor Truss Rod Covers but otherwise great.
Love the colour.
This build is a thing to behold, great finish and double the effort.
Arzi’s TLA-1 –
Cool concept, not my cup of tea, but well executed. Built to a very high standard. Keep it up, Arzi.
Vey original and obviously had a plan from the start. Fret board finish is stand out on this build
This build was great to watch – particularly the techniques to distress the wood. I especially love the way the fretboard has come up around frets 2-4. Very nice.
Amazingly aged work of art. Hard to believe this isn't a 50 year old guitar.
Love the driftwood relic look. Another Arzi masterpiece where he is not afraid to go outside the square to produce a unique guitar. Extra points for upgraded string through 6 saddle bridge plus upgraded tuners.
MarkyKobane’s MK–2 -
Another great tribute guitar. Well thought out upgrades and quality assembly. I would have liked to see a bit more of an organic, realistic approach to the relic, but overall very nice work.
Hey! Ho! Let’s go! Love this tribute build and the goofy headstock decal makes it an absolute winner.
A well thought out Ramone tribute axe.
Nailed the relic look. Love the headstock logo, very artistic and unique.
Knew exactly what he was looking to achieve great finish
IRLGuitar’s TL-1Q –
And now for something completely different.... Wow, what an original and interesting take on the good old telecaster. Retro appeal to the max. Bravo.
That headstock. That quilt. That finish. What a build!
Nice natural finish with some great grain coming through
Clever mods, well finished. The headstock "binding" flaws are the only weak link.
Great swimming pool effect with blue on quilted maple. Good to see some originality on headstock design with faux binding plus unique scratch plates. Extra points for upgraded 6 saddle bridge and twin blade bridge PUP. Only blemish appears to be a glue line running all the way down from behind bridge to end strap pin otherwise looks good.
At first glance this was my winner, beautiful colour on the body great touches with pick guards and headstock. Just needed to get the taping of the bindings etc right. For me had most wow!
Depicted Minds’ LPA-1 –
Great wow factor, I just wanted to keep looking at it. Good attention to detail and finish
Love the bold grain showing on the top plus the unique cool headstock shape, logo and binding. Good contrasting colour scheme. Extra points for hardware and PUP upgrades and for also fitting gold knobs.
Epic take on an LP-1. The chrome dome knobs are the wrong choice, but other than that, superb. The natural finish neck sets the black of the body off very nicely. A class act, hard to follow.
You made the most of that awesome ash grain, and have added some high quality touches. Really nice subtle burst on this one too.
Great job all round.
Julio’s MK-2 –
Very nice. I am loving the orange, an unusual but excellent version of this guitar. Great job.
Simple & classic.
This guitar looks like it was ripped out of the ‘70s with that vintage finish. Leaving the headstock natural was a good choice.
Well finished with good contrasting colours plus original headstock design.
Great build with some nice touches.
Gallagherbuilds’ TLA-1 –
A classic T-style with a worn look.
Loved the detailed video build diary. Sanding sealer applied first probably prevented a lot of grain popping that can be achieved with Ash timber. Good to see a unique headstock shape and logo.
Classic looks for this TL-1. A bit more care could have been taken with the finish and the position of the logo, but a well rounded instrument.
Not the biggest fan of the headstock shape but that’s just me being traditional. Great quality of finish and a great choice in hardware.
And the winner is...
And the runner up?

MrMayhem75's ES1-TL! Great work and the demo went down well. Overall a killer guitar and any of the judges would love to have that one in their collection.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner
And the winner this month by a nose is..... DepictedMinds with his LPA-1. The popping followed by classic silverburst look had an outstanding effect on this guitar and the judges felt this was the best guitar this month! Congratulations DepictedMinds.

Great build DepictedMinds - congratulations and well done!
Congratulations to everyone who entered - all were great guitars, however there can be only one winner!
Well done everyone. And especially well done to MrMayhem75 and Depicted Minds. Both great guitars.
Congrats to DepictedMinds! If I had to come in second, that was a worthy winner.
I appreciate everyone who helped me through the process. Unfortunately, the orange peel in the pictures isn't visible in real life as much as it is in the photos, but you live and you learn. I'm still very happy with the result and that the judges thought so highly of it.
We'll be back with an even bigger and badder project soon.
Wow - Thanks so much, guys!
I have to be completely honest, it's really damn cool just being in the same room (virtual or otherwise) with folks like everyone here in this comp. MrMayhem's guitar, from the look and sound of it, right down to the purpose of it being built, is really just something to be proud of. I'll happily share this one with you :)
Everyone's build diaries are awesome, and I really love the demo's. I learn heaps from this forum and community, and i hope that it keeps going stronger and stronger.
Jan's GOTM has started already, and from some of the build diaries that are nearing the end, there's some real treats coming in this, and the following months.. it's going to be real perty!
Congrats to the winner, runner up and all other entrants for another great round of GOTM!

Congratulations Depicted, it's a great guitar, I knew it at the moment I could see it finished and could hear the great tone you can reach with her.
And also, congratulations to the other participants because all of them have presented a handful of great guitars too, all of you, guys, are great guitar builders.
Well done to all the entrants. Congrats to DepictedMinds and to MrMayhem as runner up, both excellent builds.
Congratulations!
congratulations Depictedminds and Mr Mayhem on runner up. Also big congrats to all other entrants was hard to split a winner. All entries were of a very high standard. Keep up the good work forumites !
Well done to the winners. I reckon it was a hairs breath between Mr Mayhem and Depicted. Awesome stuff. I know it gets you fired up for the next one!
Well done DepictedMinds and Mr Mayhem - truly pro quality guitars, be proud guys
And to all the others - they are all great guitars that you should be proud to have built, to own and to play, lovely work this month
Congrats mr mayhem and depicted minds. Very deserving winners. Cant wait to see everyones next builds. Cheers judges for the feed back. Bring on januarys entries!
Well done MrMayhem75 and Depicted Minds. I am very partial to DM's trans black burst.
Well done Depicted Minds. Knew you were on a winner there.
Thanks for the mention and the feedback for mine too guys. It was great fun and a learning experience.
Main thing I learnt...."Patience, young Skywalker"
So, any tips on how to get rid of that glue line without sanding through the veneer or scratching the hell out of the top?
A brilliant effort to everyone, who knows but you the time and effort that goes on in creating all the masterpieces that are on this site.
What impresses me the most is the diversity of the visions that you guys have and the determination in fulfilling those visions no matter what.
Sure not all may like them but what is important is THAT YOU DO. Its not about skill but vision and creativity.
JOB WELL DONE TO ALL.
Great effort ILR and glue lines are hard to get rid of without causing more damage. In the prep stage 'Goof Off' may have done the trick but now it's all shiny & finished you could risk refinishing the whole top. Whatever attempt to fix it will require more top coats and that begs the question as to where do you stop? Maybe a thin black line over the white bit would not stand out as much and decal transfer paper might be the only thing you could use to get it to stay in place or you could simply leave as is as it looks pretty good all over.
Well done to Depicted & Mayhem plus all other entrants. Another tough month and the quality is only getting better each month.
@ depictedminds Just thought I would say congratulations, your guitar build turned out awesome.
I just had a listen to the demo you uploaded to soundcloud, the guitar sounds really good, and there's nothing wrong at all with your playing at all, you're way better than I am, and I'm still learning, keep at it.
