Hey Woks, enjoy the WA Craft Beers but not earning as much coin some of you guys in the West probably working in resource related industries so when on a budget XXXX Gold is not that bad as there is worse out there. Hmmm, VB comes to mind as the most putrid and that is only the starting point of list of worst beers.
The stuff tastes even better after your State of Origin team wins. Would hate be in NSW sucking on a Tooheys. There mere thought makes me wanna puke.
Haha no worries Waz. Glad your team won.I recently went for a tour of your home ground Suncorp stadium pretty impressive facility

burst is looking great Andy, also love the burst on back of the necks, great job mate !
Nice job on the burst Andy
Thanks guys. I didn't really envision using the coolangatta gold so largely with this burst...but its just such a great colour!
yup defiantly more of an explosion than a burst at this scale. It's lookin great!
oh wow, awesome burst, looks great
light 600 wet sand, then 4th and final stain coat.

Nice! The burst is looking fantastic Andy - great job.
cheers,
Gav.
Thanks Gav,
Originally I was going to make it more orange but the Coolangatta Gold looks so good. maple necks look like they are on fire.....ha ha might call it a fire burst!
Nice one Andy that's looking unreal got to be happy with that!
Thanks Wokks, yeah actually, I took ages and ages picking the finish for this build. I got really lost with the F&W prooftint, then stamp pad ink, then i was going to paint it. I just wasn't getting excited about anything. I weighed up the cost of colortone and again couldn't justify it at this stage, plus it doesn;t come with a finish. In the end I took the plunge with all DT (with the help of colour donation from Wazkelly's left overs and my left overs) and I'm absoloutley stoked. I've got a feeling its going to come out pretty mint.
hell yeah Andy the DT is great stuff. Should look unreal once the clear coats are done
I n t e n s i f i e r C o a t (Boom)
This wan't easy to lay down, blend and keep thin.

Nice!
cheers,
Gav.
Always look good whilst still wet and hope you get through this one without encountering any gremlins. Mind you the wiring job can't be too far away and wonder if your better half has booked your therapy session yet haha!
Seriously, you're doing a great job and only wish the best for you.
Cheers, Waz.
Thanks Gav and Waz. I had a crack at wiring it up at the start before I did anything else. It was pretty hard and I didn't get it perfect .....its been so long I seem to have forgotten it all now...so yes definatley some forum therapy will help.
looking seriously schmick Andy!
Looks like you will need plenty of coffee and a very early start on the day you decide to attack the wiring job.
Were you ever tempted to have master volume & master tone for the separate necks rather than run combined from the 4 pots to the 4 PUP's? Does it also have a 3 way switch to select between necks as well as the individual 3 way for each neck? Presume you are using stock PUP's too or are you looking to upgrade? To add coil splitting too might just be the tipping point to a lengthy stay in the mental asylum!
Thanks Frankenwashie!.
I agree Waz. Plenty of coffee needed. Yeah I actually wired it up to have master volume & master tone for the separate necks rather than combine them.
Regarding the pups, I got some chrome plated PBG pups from Adam for not much at all (thanks adam) because the kit ones don't have covers. I then shimmed and wax potted them and ...when I finally get this baby running....ages away yet...I'm going to do a comparison of PBG stock pups vs wax potted and see the difference.
I haven't ventured down the coil splitting road as yet......I maybe will warm to the idea one day:p;)
Hi Andy, sensible plans in that I would have gone master volume & tone too and to add coil splits would probably do your head in. Not impossible as I used a couple of push/pulls on the EX-1 and you could do the same however those stock PBG PUP's are only 2 wire and the required mods caused me to buy the cheapest 4 wire Entwistles to use in my Son's hot rodded strat and for about half the price of the Tonerider 4's in the explorer. For the price they sound terrific and neither too bright or too muddy.
Might have a think about those Entwistles waz.
In the meantime, laid down another intensifier coat...
This is how the first intensifier dried

Coming along nicely Andy cheers

Hi Woks, Cheapest Toneriders are $69 whilst cheapest Entwistles are $34.95 such as these as found on PBG site. Works out about the same as buying 2 x Tonerider vs 4 x Entwistle.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.
Looks like the Andy40 guide to thin DT final coats are working a treat so far.....
Waz, I thought this was a Rick at first but it isn't. He seems to have the market cornered on bass/guitar doubles (guitarist from the band Boris)

Looking the goods Andy.
