nice Gav, dual p90s for the win, nice
Thanks @Stan. I think it has quite a vintage feel with this look. I'm liking it! @DB - not cool man ;).
cheers,
Gav.
Great job Gav, yes it does have a vintage look. We'll need to set up a side forum for all these mossies being built!

Thanks Andrew! Yeah there's a lot of them kicking about. What can I say, the old mossy is a classic! A classic catch DB?? :P

Thanks Jbird :). Can't have enough of these bad boys!
cheers,
Gav.
That's a classy looking finish you have on the body! Very nice!
Thanks @Swanny! She's getting there. Just gotta level this lacquer and I'll be a lot happier :).
cheers,
Gav.
That Mozzy is beaut!
hi guys,
Well after a myriad of clearcoat fails this time around including sand throughs and actual bubbling on one particularly hot day (go figure), I've finally got the clear on this mossy flattened with 400grit and 3 final coats applied. She's gonna hang for a month or so to cure and then I can start on the final polishing and assembly. While that happens I guess I should get to work ont he neck!
cheers,
Gav.
Yes!!!

nice one Gav, looking glossy !! a month on the neck is plenty. So that's a LP neck in the photo ?
That's looking nice Gav! What type of clear did you use?
thanks @Swanny. it's White Knight Clear Gloss.
cheers,
Gav.
i have an LP curing now, takes about a month? how do you know when it's been long enough?
Looks great Gav, perseverance with the finish has paid off. I forgot about this mossie!

@Wokks - nah the neck is for my current Les Paul build.
I havent started on the neck for this one yet. better get cracking!
I was thinking either vintage yellow or natural with a black headstock face to match the scratchplate..
@Stan - it depends on how many coats. I just wait for it to stop smelling.
The trick is to have another build going to take your attention ;)
@Andrew - thanks dude. Yeah I'm looking forward to playing this one!
cheers guys,
Gav.
Thanks Gav, I was interested so I could look up the drying times to compare with what I'm using. I'm assuming it's the White Knight rattle can, where it is touch dry in 15 mins, respray after an hour? They don't suggest a curing time in their data sheet, but it's a lot slower drying than the Septone Clear I used, which is 10 mins between coats.
PS... I've been smelling my guitar since I sprayed it yesterday
Edit... Looking at the MSDS for the same brand products, aerosol Vs bulk amounts (for thinning) shows some differences in the chemicals used. Does using aerosol cans mean longer curing due to the chemicals used? Something added to prevent it drying in the can, perhaps?
Yeah not sure Swanny. The sniff test doesn't lie, no matter what the thinners and agents! ;) I generally try to wait as long as possible, but when I'm feeling particularly impatient I have an outdoor heater here from the big green shed to keep things moving along.
cheers,
Gav.
Hey guys,
Ok after 2 weeks curing, today I managed to get the previous White Knight coats levelled with 600 grit and sprayed two final coats. I'll leave these to cure so they'll be ready for final cut and polish in a month or so. I really have had sooo many issues with the ash and the acrylic this time around, and it's almost sent me round the twist. Bubbles ruining the finish and so on. Not sure what I'm doing or not doing, but I really don't want another repeat. Anyway home straight now I hope.
cheers,
Gav,
That body is starting to come up nice Gav.
sweet finish there Gav nice and flat and glossy.
I'd be happy how it is now to assemble !
you nailed the belly and arm cuts, they really suit the Mozzy !
WOW! That's looking smooth Gav, nice finish.
Talk about a mirror finish! That's looking good, Gav!
@Tony, @Wokka, @Rockmof & @Swanny - thanks guys. She's getting there now!
cheers,
Gav.
Hey Gav,
Do you think that the acrylic reacted badly to the tru-oil?
Looking good Gav, I've been having similar woes with acrylic. I think I experience a new issue every time I use it. Reminds me I should update a few builds...
Looks killer though mate
Thanks Stan :). Yeah I have no issues with solid colour or with Maple veneer. Even basswood seems no issue. Dunno what I'm doing with the ash. Very intersted to hear your updates dude!
cheers,
Gav.
Hmmmmmm... Could be a few things, humidity can cause bubbles and milky looking finishes or it is the NO used under the Acrylic.
Glad you got it sorted, time to upgrade and get a compressor and gun to make life easier :)
Oh, and that body will make for a very flasy Cricket bat :p
Hey guys,
I finally got an hour today to work on the cricket bat. The acrylic has been leveled with 1500 grit, finished with 2000 grit and then one round with the Meguiars Ultmate Compound. She's looking nice and shiny already.
cheers,
Gav.
Phwoar. Shiny!
That classy glassy look! Nice!
Holy moly!!
