Will do shortly mate. Stock pbg neck, dB bone nut, using the stock bridge and a gfs unit to reference. Gotta mow the lawn first. Been neglecting it th3 past few weeks and if I don't do it the wife will have me.
no worries Andrew, mow your lawns buddy. Maybe if you can please post the distance between E strings on the nut and compare it to a standard F type nut. I suspect the slots could be a bit wide if the bridge and neck are standard
I had that feeling too but I can't bring myself to doubt db's work.
So from e to e on the nut is 38mm, nut width is 42mm, and the bevels come. In about a mm each side leaving a mm on each e between the string edge and the bevel if the fret end. Will post pics shortly.
no worries Andrew, please compare the 38mm to a PBG F type nut, got a feeling the slots are a bit wide
Mate I destroyed the nut when I took it out so I don't have the tele one. Would the nut on an St kit be the same?

Here is the spacing at the nut.

So the bone nut is 38/9, plastic is 34/5
yeah Andrew as I thought. The ST and TL nut should be the same spacing. You better flick DB an email and ask for 34mm spacing between E strings. You can clearly see the 38mm spaced nut isn't going to work
Dang it. Was hoping this beast would be making noise today.
Email sent. I might rip the plastic nut out of the st and use that to line everything up. Got a bone nut on the way for that anyway.
yeah the strings will slide off the frets being basically over the bevels. You could play slide guitar on it !
Only other way to get noise today is to rip a F type nut out of another build while you wait for another bone nut
What kind of sorcery do our eastern brothers use to glue in the f type nuts. I've got a spare neck to use as a scratch build neck, tried everything I could to get it out and totally lunched it. Still haven't got it out but it's totally wrecked.
On recommendation from DB - superglue
Hmm, that's a bugger Andrew ... I always "do my nut" (badoom-tish! :D) and they've never failed to come out quite easily with a good sharp rap from a mallet (onto a drift) ... maybe the "eastern brother" (I like that! :) that installed yours thought he was being conscientious by giving it an extra good lathering with glue
bugger, even worse Andrew I've had a small chunk of the front of the fingerboard rip out when I tried to remove a F type nut so be careful. I ended up getting it out with the adjustable wrench pliers. Try knocking the side with a plastic or rubber mallet, trying not to hit the fingerboard
Yeah guys did all that and no dice. I'm sure they use superbly, then they super glue the super glue, then super glue in the nut.
But I took the nut of the st and using that. So far necks on, bridge is on, string through and ferrules are done, neck work is done. Now I have to dremel out the bridge pup cavity to fit the base of the new pup, wiring, screw the plate down and try play an open e.
yeah bummer mate, the G type nuts are so much easier to remove one blow with a plastic hammer as there's no channel they are sitting in. Looks like your neck had far too much superglue in it.
Remember not to glue the new nut till you have strung it up and tested string heights etc
good news bro, you should get sound of the tele after all
Hey man at least you can cut a custom nut! Thanks again hey, really appreciate the speedy response today mate.
oh well. so Andrew you will have to one day build a wider neck to suit DB's custom nut hahha
DB your a very talented man but on this occasion DB stands for Donkey Boy lol.........
But Andrew like Wokks said you have a great custom nut there for a custom axe.
Agreed guys, wide flat neck is the go I think! So I downloaded the wiring diagram for two hb, one vol, one tone, 3 way, coil taps, decided that's best for another day so drank beer instead. Wife went to bed early so I had a go, all went well til I wired the bridge pup to the volume knob....... Rad. I'm sure beer and sanding are mates but beer and schematics, in my case, aren't.
haha know the feeling Andrew, wiring definitely best done sober mate ! Wiring plans sound good, so sound this weekend hopefully buddy
Yeah mate, I'll hopefully have her done tonight.

Time for a final hand polish to get rid of a few dust scratches and she'll be ready for some slinkys!
nice work bro, that's a helly of a telly
Thanks mate. About to string her up now, string trees then rock out!
That's what I'm talking about

Just need to put the strap buttons on and it's go time!
Check this out guys. Totally weird problem with the electronics. Pretty sure it's a stray earth but very random.

Fixed it. Sorry mate.
Weird aint the word for that problem, Andrew! ... never seen anything like it! (its certainly one for the books!)
I'm sure some of the electronic-guru's might be able to offer some suggestions ... but at worst you can always carry your printer around to gigs, set it up next to your amp and call yourselves the "Inktones" :D
(Sorry about that, I know a bad sense of humour helps when you've got a problem! :D )
... but it sure is a super sweet looking Tele none the less, bro ... and from the couple of test strums you made in the clip, I'd love to hear a sound-bite of it in full-flight!
Haha Yeah man it had me laughing. I'm sure it's an earth issue, but had to share.
